Don't look now, but he's second on a 10-3-0 team in TOI/G. Credit where credit is due. He's been playing well recently.

Agreed, he has been solid the last few games.

Fun fact:

Obviously a super small sample size, but when the score is even at 5v5, Staal and Holden are our best defenseman at driving scoring chances for/against

The guy has been everything you could want to get and more for the price of the 4th round pick. He has played both sides, 1st, 2nd and 3rd pairing. PK and PP. He plays a nice physical game as well and on top of that, he is scoring.

I know many people hate his 'fancy stats' but the guy has been a nice low-cost addition to a defensive corps that needed exactly what he brings.

This isn't discounting the fact that they need to upgrade the right side, but he has played well.

He's played literally none of these well so why does this matter?

Nick Holden was literally the last thing this defense needed. Another slow, lobster claws meatshield when we already have two of them.

Are we watching the same Holden?

Everyone is saying he has been fine lately aside from one poster.

Anyone who thinks Holden is that big a liability must not be watching games. He's fine...and he would probably be even better if he wasn't playing his off side. I'd categorize him as a pleasant surprise.

I don't mind Holden on the left side. But when he's in the top 4 or on the right side I want to gouge my eyes out.

Playing much much better but of course only posts regarding him come in forms of negative fashion.
Last 2 weeks or so has been solid, strong on his skates and putting up points.
Right now probably the third best dman on the team

I don't think you'll find anyone disagreeing with you there. McDonagh, Skjei, and Holden have been our best dmen. I'd go with Staal, Girardi, then Klein after them.

Just sucks that this teams defensive players only get mentioned when something negative has to be said but I guess that's just the way it is

It's tough not to mention it, especially since we got much faster (again) and now have forwards paying much more attention on defense. Even Zucc is backchecking like a madman this season.

hard to tell if Holdens been good, or if Staals just been SO bad that he's making Holden look good.

That's what I said yesterday...when Nick Holden is one of your better d-men... Considering what Avs fan were warning us about, he's good.

Again, he has been fine over the last month+. When he isn't playing 22 minutes vs the other teams top players I have no problem with him.

Our defense has largely been very good this season, Holden included. They've all been good, except for Klein. 8th best in GA/G entering this game, and that could even go down, given the shutout. That is happening with the starter being one of the worst starting goalies in the league to start the season. I don't know what more people want from the defense. The defense gets no respect.

And Klein slowly playing better so hopefully there is hope he can round into form either to help the team or drive up his trade value. Right now the biggest worry is Girardis lack of mobility in the d zone . Holden has been terrific and dare I say it so has staal. Skjei is a rookie and will get better. Has a whole this defense has been better than last year and seems to be giving up much fewer scoring chances from right in front of the net

Holden has been a nice pickup. Any weakness he has shown is due to overexposure which isn't his fault.
