Just curious, do you guys think Foligno had a career year, or are you expecting this type of production from him next season?

Given that Foligo was tied for 10th in the NHL in scoring, it very well could have been.

He was tied for 24th in the entire NHL in points produced per 60 minutes (2.38), which while very good, could be replicated.
His power play stats were off the charts. He was 3rd in the league at 7.98 points/60 minutes on the PP with a shooting percentage of 36.67%. He'll almost certainly fall of in his PP productivity.

Overall scoring was so low in the NHL, that I wouldn't be surprised if there are some rules adjustments which could boost scoring and that would obviously benefit Foligno. A 65 points season with a top 25 NHL ranking wouldn't be much of a drop off and I see him very capable of producing these numbers if he's on Johansen's line.

I would be very surprised if he hits those numbers. Personally, I'd be happy with a 50 point season out of him.

I would say a career year. I just don't see 30 goals a year from him on a regular basis. 20g + 40a, yes. The fancy stats people will tell you Foligno increases the production of everyone when paired with him. If the team is healthy, does he get the same PP time?

20g 40a is what I'd expect.

Incidentally it's what I was expecting of Foligno for years. You can see the great amount of chances he creates, and I kept expecting him to start cashing in on that - until this past year when I had given up hope that he had the finish for it.

Ok. I'll grant you that. But I just feel you weigh Boone against Nick or Dubi and they've just got him. And perhaps this is a timing thing for me. He's still young and they're vets. They have more experience at this level to draw on to bring to the role. That'll come for Boone and I think in the future he could make a fantastic captain. But not now in this situation when I feel we have better options.

And I agree, I think it was in the other thread on the mains where I said we literally have the perfect scenario captain wise. Foligno the guy that every can get behind including the fans and then we have guys who will (most likely) be wearing As acting as the generals if you will leading by example(Dubi, Jenner, Hartnell)

Completely fair.
My thoughts:
1. I like the idea of growing a young guy with the team as Captain (Karlsson, Crosby, Landeskog, etc...).
2. Umby had a couple good years and people wanted him to be C then as well. Look where that went. What happens if Nick drops off? Not really much of a concern TBH, but still.
3. Dubi as C might temper some of his edge IMO.

At the end of the day though I can see why people feel the way they do.

The reason they didnt pick Dubinsky is because he lets his temper get the best of him and cant control his mouth.

Also i think Foligno is the perfect age to where if Jenner or Murray steps up over the next 5 years they could easily take over for him.

Here’s a meaty quote from Brandon Dubinsky, who was seen as a potential Blue Jackets' candidate before Foligno was given the 'C' this summer. “It’s a great choice. He keeps our group even-keeled. He takes his time, he thinks before he speaks. He obviously leads with his play. You really saw him elevate his play last year with a lot of key injuries, and we know he’s going to do the same this season because he’s that taletned of a player. I think he’s really matured into a guy who has a great inner-motivation. We’re excited for him. I know he’s happy and looking forward to the opportunity. We all stand behind him.”

That could very well be true. Ironically, that's what makes Dubi who he is - and why we love him.

A couple of things. As far as opening his mouth to where the media and fans can see, it's very rare that he says anything controversial. As far as his temper, he takes a bad penalty or two. Don't really see that much more out of him than that. Lastly, I didn't realize that we were trying to figure out why Dubinsky didn't get the Captaincy. He would have made a good Captain, but Foligno won the job. End of story. I don't care why, happy we finally have one.

Good for Foligno.

I think Dubi's comment "He keeps our group even-keeled. He takes his time, he thinks before he speaks." is exactly why. CBJ has more than few "vocal" guys on the team and someone that can temper that was probably what they were looking for.

I would bet that if the locker room was the exact opposite, quiet and reserved, someone like Dubi would be the captain.

Foligno is the Captain, and Duby is the hot-headed sergeant. We've seen it countless times in WW2 movies.

With the 0-5 start, and part of that clearly being poor effort, would the Jackets ever consider returning to a team without a C, and go with only A's

Foligno either had a career year last year, or he is pressing too much and being the Captain isn't helping him any

He's clearly pressing, but I am very concerned that he's already lost the room because there's a bunch of talk and no results from everyone on the team. It's Foligno's job to rally the troops and make them listen to Richards. He's supposed to be the leader and he isn't doing that on the ice. Obviously I have no idea how he is in the room but I would imagine it not being too much better since we're 0-5

There's no captain in the league who can inspire a talentless D core to success. Maybe he can do some soothsaying with Bob, but that puts us in purely speculative territory. Really we don't know anything about the room.

I will say that Foligno has got to stop trying to do everything himself. We're going to get out of this mess when the players learn to trust each other again.
