What's Bonino got left in him? Capable 3C or is purely 4th line material now?
4th line PK winger who can occasionally luck into a goal. Can't skate, isn't winning faceoffs anymore, will not drive play at all. On a good team, probably a 12-13th forward.

So it's possible that the Sharks actually paid for someone to take him...
How so? Sund and Arvidson are both washes. So Bonino and a 5th for a 5th that could become a 4th, and 7th.

At worst, you can say it was 0 net value and just doing Bonino a favor, but it wasn’t a negative value trade.

Arvid rights probably expire this offseason and MTL has a massive reserve list, so they wanted Sund but needed a slot taken back

Still seems kinda bad to downgrade a fifth and get a 7th for Bonino

The Sharks trade their 5th and get Pittsburgh's 5th back; that is likely to be worse than the Sharks's pick.

While true, the difference in expected outcome will be miniscule. Even the difference between our 5th and Pittsburgh's 7th is miniscule.

It's basically a wash, which makes sense as Bonino has little or no value.

Also it means we get two lottery tickets instead of one. I'd rather have two (or we can exchange one to move up and get the guy we want somewhere in the draft).

Both Henrikson and Sund expire this offseason. It was just used to make the proper trade between the two. The Sharks needed to get something from Montreal to make this deal work. Don't see why it seems bad. They get a 7th for Bonino and don't have to retain when they may need to retain in June with Karlsson.

Definitely the weirdest trade of this deadline, but also practically meaningless, except as a goodwill gesture to Bonino.

Garbage return but don't think that's the point of the deal. Doing right by a player and getting a 7th round pick out of it. Thanks for a good 1.5 years, and good luck!
dropping 20 spots in the 5th round is kinda annoying but also it's the 5th round. the chance for it to get bumped to the 4th is nice though.

Henrikson is a 25-year-old college defenseman who has 9 points in 130 games.

Habs fan here. He was 52 out of 52 prospects Under 25 years old last summer.

''The gamble on the 6’3” Swede in the seventh round of the 2016 NHL Draft didn’t pay off like it did with others taken in that range, including Evans and Primeau. Henrikson had his best season at the NCAA last season, with five assists in 35 games at Lake Superior State University. He’s entering his senior season, but is still looking for his first goal.

Henrikson may have a future in professional hockey ahead of him, but as he enters his final year of eligibility for this list, it won’t be in Montreal.''

The Sharks also acquired the rights to Arvid Henrikson in the deal. This brings Henrikson’s time in the Canadiens organization, and his infamous role as the bottom-ranked player in our annual Top 25 Under 25, to a close.

So it gives the idea...

his value is only what others will pay. if you only have 3 teams he'll go to offering similar packages, thats his value
That’s not entirely true. Carolina was initially not on the list of 3 teams he could be traded to. Teams can always ask the player to waive their no trade/movement clause.
