The Avs are a better team with Nuke when playing, and I don't believe CMac + co. think they're a $6 mil replacement player away from winning the cup. You need luck to win the cup, and they're just gambling he won't get caught again.

I expect him to be gone next summer even if he recovers and plays well in the playoffs. We need the cap space for Drouin and Rantanen. Hopefully the return is somewhat reasonable. Alternatively he fks up again and we are in deep shit.

I think the org. Is waiting to see how Landy is before they make a decision on Nuke. These types of players are extremely hard to find and some how Avs have 2 but both have been damaged goods since the cup.

But my personal view on gambling is that if I want to throw money away, it's better to make a contribution to a charity that I could write off for tax purposes rather than just gifting cold hard cash into someone else's pocket book.

I donate a LOT to charities , you'd be surprised. I also take part in charity events like the Bondi to Palm Beach celebrity walk raising awareness for men's mental health. It's only 100 KMs, bit ooof, it's harder than it sounds (very hilly, and a lot is beach).

I don't play poke machines (I believe you guys call them slots) and I've never been to a casino in my life.

Once a year I bet on Sea Eagles, Chelsea, and Colorado to win the entire thing.

I've really got nothing against gambling personally. It's just the first time I went to a casino (20 years old in the Navy), I was playing blackjack with some shipmates. We watched as this guy at our table kept loosing and going to the ATM to pull more money. Somewhere around 1am he'd withdrawn everything he had and when the ATM wouldn't give him any more money he started punching, kicking and screaming at it while crying and making a huge freaking scene. It was kind of shocking to see how much power it had over him.

So between that experience and the fact that I do not have a poker face and am absolutely terrible at games of chance, I don't personally gamble. However, like beer and wine, many folks can and do enjoy a bit of gambling without any negative consequences in their lives. My friends that do gamble on sports say the watching the game is more exhilarating when they have money on the line. If it adds to your experience, by all means don't let me poo-poo on your parade.

Either way, I go to a casino occasionally but it is all about having fun and enjoying food and the atmosphere. I have this MGM card that offers free rooms at MGM resorts and in comps pays for your food and free parking. Some nicer casinos that I visit sometimes are Borgata in Atlantic City. They have a pool there, gym, lots of restaurants. The reason why I go to casinos sometimes is mostly for enjoyment and fun. I usually just play Spanish 21 Blackjack and there are days that you can win and days that you can loose. I think it's all about having fun.

Oh yeah. I mean, I used to go to Vegas all the time for work conventions. That town goes out of its way at times to make folks feel special. I can't count the number of VIP party invites I'd get at the Monte Carlo. Complimentary upgrades on rooms. I mean, they can go out of their way to give you your money's worth if you look at it as an experience that you're buying. And from that perspective it makes a lot of sense to me. Again, for me it's probably more the fact that I absolutely suck at gambling that turns me off from it. I mean, who wouldn't want to make money while watching the Avs play? I just chose the stupid moments to double down or stay in hand that I know isn't going anywhere. I could sit at a table and loose a hundred bucks in fifteen minutes because I'll get nothing but shit cards and have to fold over and over again. I could probably get a job as a cooler.

I still think my biggest beef is that I'm hearing this was an issue with the Avs before they signed him to this extension. If they truly knew this could be something, why in the world did they give money, term and movement protection to him? It's not like the contract was considered a discount at the time he signed it. He wouldn't have gotten much more, if any, on the open market at the time.

It was considered a discount, as I remember. But mostly, he wasn't supposed to get caught. Seattle did that. Without Seattle, he'd most likely still be cruising along like always (and like a lot of others still do).

First it's not true that they weren't expecting him to be there, he missed morning skate and they made up a story that he was sick.

Second if that story was true they'd not have forced him into the program

The fact that he got caught a 2nd and 3rd times after this says that this story was all BS (except a few facts sprinkled here in there like the injuries).
