Less tourism hah. Might be true but it's still overrun with tourism. Really unbearable when I went in Spring. Can't even fathom what summer looks like. And best football team in the world lol. What is it 2005?

I think people are overcomplicating this.

The Avs are a better team with Nuke when playing, and I don't believe CMac + co. think they're a $6 mil replacement player away from winning the cup. You need luck to win the cup, and they're just gambling he won't get caught again.
I expect him to be gone next summer even if he recovers and plays well in the playoffs. We need the cap space for Drouin and Rantanen. Hopefully the return is somewhat reasonable. Alternatively he fks up again and we are in deep shit.

I mean I think they'd move him if no cap was coming back. But I'm guessing no one will do that so there's no point in trading him in that scenario.

What's lol about that ? I'd be considering it a very distinct possibility. I'm throwing a few hundred on us to win the cup, don't you doubt.
Man, I hope you make a killing.

But my personal view on gambling is that if I want to throw money away, it's better to make a contribution to a charity that I could write off for tax purposes rather than just gifting cold hard cash into someone else's pocket book.

I donate a LOT to charities , you'd be surprised. I also take part in charity events like the Bondi to Palm Beach celebrity walk raising awareness for men's mental health. It's only 100 KMs, bit ooof, it's harder than it sounds (very hilly, and a lot is beach).

I don't play poke machines (I believe you guys call them slots) and I've never been to a casino in my life.

Once a year I bet on Sea Eagles, Chelsea, and Colorado to win the entire thing.

But I get what you're saying, and love the sentiment and agree mate. You're a great fella.

Thanks buddy.

I've really got nothing against gambling personally. It's just the first time I went to a casino (20 years old in the Navy), I was playing blackjack with some shipmates. We watched as this guy at our table kept loosing and going to the ATM to pull more money. Somewhere around 1am he'd withdrawn everything he had and when the ATM wouldn't give him any more money he started punching, kicking and screaming at it while crying and making a huge freaking scene. It was kind of shocking to see how much power it had over him.

So between that experience and the fact that I do not have a poker face and am absolutely terrible at games of chance, I don't personally gamble. However, like beer and wine, many folks can and do enjoy a bit of gambling without any negative consequences in their lives. My friends that do gamble on sports say the watching the game is more exhilarating when they have money on the line. If it adds to your experience, by all means don't let me poo-poo on your parade.

And in the end, they need Val's permission. What if he's so f***ed up that he can't pick up the phone to accept a trade?
Val ain't leaving Denver any time soon. He loves it here and he loves his teammates and his teammates love him back (just ask Mack). He just bought a very expensive house there.

Nuke is a core player for the Avalanche. Avalanche are not going to start trading away their star players like Rants or Nuke. We are not in a rebuild mode, we are competing for a cup. With Nuke and Landy both in lineup we can be a very dangerous team next season.

I guess if a person is a professional or a frequent gambler then they can deduct their gambling expenses or losses on their taxes. Either way, I go to a casino occasionally but it is all about having fun and enjoying food and the atmosphere. I have this MGM card that offers free rooms at MGM resorts and in comps pays for your food and free parking. Some nicer casinos that I visit sometimes are Borgata in Atlantic City. They have a pool there, gym, lots of restaurants. The reason why I go to casinos sometimes is mostly for enjoyment and fun. I usually just play Spanish 21 Blackjack and there are days that you can win and days that you can loose. I think it's all about having fun.

Oh yeah. I mean, I used to go to Vegas all the time for work conventions. That town goes out of its way at times to make folks feel special. I can't count the number of VIP party invites I'd get at the Monte Carlo. Complimentary upgrades on rooms. I mean, they can go out of their way to give you your money's worth if you look at it as an experience that you're buying. And from that perspective it makes a lot of sense to me. Again, for me it's probably more the fact that I absolutely suck at gambling that turns me off from it. I mean, who wouldn't want to make money while watching the Avs play? I just chose the stupid moments to double down or stay in hand that I know isn't going anywhere. I could sit at a table and loose a hundred bucks in fifteen minutes because I'll get nothing but shit cards and have to fold over and over again. I could probably get a job as a cooler.

I still think my biggest beef is that I'm hearing this was an issue with the Avs before they signed him to this extension. If they truly knew this could be something, why in the world did they give money, term and movement protection to him? It's not like the contract was considered a discount at the time he signed it. He wouldn't have gotten much more, if any, on the open market at the time.

It was considered a discount, as I remember. But mostly, he wasn't supposed to get caught. Seattle did that. Without Seattle, he'd most likely still be cruising along like always (and like a lot of others still do).

This seems to be the part you ignore.

He’s a good player, who, 2 seasons in a row, screwed us over and was NOT in the lineup by his own choice.

How do we compete for a cup if we continue to allot money to him and he keeps screwing us over?

Second episode about Colorado and Valerey Nichushkin

Main quote:

About the situation in Seattle:
“It was the most difficult season, there were a lot of injuries in the team all season. I missed 2 months due to bursitis. I also had a shoulder injury, which constantly bothered me. I always had problems sleeping, but because of the pain in my shoulder, the situation with my sleep got worse. They did an MRI and they couldn’t decide whether to have surgery or not. In the end, they decided not to do it and gave me injections in my shoulder. These injections stopped helping and they decided to inject me with another drug. When we flew to Seattle, they decided that I would not play the match due to a shoulder injury, because I needed to not bother my shoulder for a while until the drug starts working and everyone on the team knew that I would not play until the end of the round. It put a lot of pressure on the psyche and was very annoying. I had friends in Seattle at that moment and I made the wrong decision, we hung out with them at night and in the morning I flew to Denver. This girl in my room has nothing to do with me. The club advised me not to give any comments, and I myself was not emotionally ready to explain all this. This was probably the wrong decision and it was necessary to tell the whole situation right away so that there weren’t a bunch of different rumors. If we had made it to the second round, I would have been ready to play."

As I understood his story, he knew that he would not play against Seattle and went drinking with friends at night, and apparently this girl was in this company, or his friends hired her as a prostitute.

Spot on mate. He'll come back focused. He's also back sooner than people think. Seems like people think they just "know" him in thread.

I don't of course either, but I'm willing to back any human when it comes to redemption..
He can't come back sooner than after 6 months. This what I expect, 6 months. Will he falter after that? I don't know.

First it's not true that they weren't expecting him to be there, he missed morning skate and they made up a story that he was sick.

Second if that story was true they'd not have forced him into the program

The fact that he got caught a 2nd and 3rd times after this says that this story was all BS (except a few facts sprinkled here in there like the injuries).

Yeah. The only thing I believe from that entire story is that he would have played in the 2nd round.
