we need some scoring from our bottom 2 lines and he's the only one i see who has a chance at providing any so i don't see the downside of giving him a few games to see if he's ready

I find it hard to disagree with this. If he is not ready you can always replace him, but let's see what he has.

He is super talented. He has the ability to give our lineup a whole new dimension.

I imagine the plan is to rotate him in and out, I am sure the Leafs brass is more than willing to make him a fixture in the lineup if he grabs a spot when give the chance.

Thornton (Age), Simmonds (Age), Spezza (Age), Vesey (Usage), Barbanov (Usage) are all forwards who are likely filled in pencil on the lineup and Robertson will have a chance to grab one of the spots full time while the others rotate in and out of the other 4 spots.

Roberston played much better than a few who were absolutely invisible the CBJ series and 1st game this year against the Habs, this kid is fast ans has a hell of a shot and did not turn the puck over in that series like Engvall, Engvall and soup are both big bodies but refuse to hit, I gave Soup leaway CBJ series because he just got back from that aweful injury, Hab game was no different he was invisible and so was Vessey other than the goal he scored, so was our third line center Kerfoot invisible, these guys were laboring. There were a few guys who played really well and were responsible for the win, Montreal fired on all cylinders were faster on the puck and had better passing plays and pressures, the guys who played well made the difference and rose to the top to eak out the win. Robertson's speed would have been more useful that game than the few I mentioned who seemed to forget how to skate and know how to play the game. I know its only the 1st game so there is NO RANT here but it is what i saw

I'd like to see Robertson in for Barabonov. Just don't see what he brings yet. If you're 4th line you have to either be physical, or a special teams guy. Barabonov doesn't hit, and isn't on the PK or PP. Robertson plays with a bit of "fiesty" in his game, and would be a tremendous asset on one of the PP units with his nose for the net and rocket of a shot. Is Barabonov really in our long term plans like Robertson is? We have a great opportunity this year to play the kid beside Spezza and Simmonds. Two vets that could help him a lot. Spezza is still a good passer and playmaker, and Simmonds provides protection. Leaves Robertson to be the shooter that he is on that line. Plus the added benefit of all the player coaching he'd get from Spezza and Simmonds back on the bench. Just don't see the need for Barabonov over Robertson. But that's just my opinion

Barabonov did turn down other options to sign here. If the Leafs want to keep the Euro free agent pipeline continuing they'll have to be seen giving these guys a fair chance to settle in the lineup.

That said, I very much look forward to seeing Robertson with the Leafs

Just curious as to how many Euro free agents have turned out to be great or even good players for the Leafs?

Zaitev was a decent #5 (who unfortunatelyended up with a lousy contract), Soup looks like hes a solid top 9 winger. Then you've got guys like Sosh who busted out.

Its a mixed bag for sure. But not a bridge id insist on burning just yet

Mikheyev is about it. A good third liner, ok second liner. Zaitsev wasn't/isn't great ..and that got made worse by the bad contract Lou gave him.

I agree with where your thought process is. But that said, Lehtonen is sitting right now

We don’t even know what we are getting with barabanov yet, he looked ok against MTL...let the guy get adjusted before you try to staple his arse to the taxi squad lol

Ya I would hate to burn any bridges. Soup is still a big question. Hopefully he can put together a string of solid games

I said I just don't see what he brings YET. I do think he loses his spot at some point. He'll be given a chance, that much is clear. Just saying I don't think he'll be a regular by mid season

Give Barabanov a few more games. If he doesn’t really show anything besides mediocre then put Robertson in.

I would take out Vessey. He was garbage. Yes he scored a goal but he was still garbage. Dude looked so slow and lost.

Looks like Keefe agrees. Here comes Robertson. He's a driven kid. He's gonna make it hard to pull him back out imo

Maple Leafs' Robertson to make NHL regular-season debut vs. Senators

Maple Leafs' Robertson to make NHL regular-season debut vs. Senators

Tonight, Robertson will replace seldom-used fourth-line winger Alexander Barabanov in the lineup as Toronto looks to avenge Friday’s 5-3 loss to the Senators. Barabanov has yet to register a point and is a minus-1 through two NHL appearances.

Second-string goaltender Jack Campbell will get the start in net for Toronto, and third-stringer Aaron Dell will back up, giving No. 1 netminder Frederik Andersen a full two days’ rest ahead of next week’s busy schedule.

Thanks Keefe

Is Robertson able to do some penalty killing? I know he did in the OHL but he was most often times the best player on the ice playing in the O

I don’t know what to expect since I’ve only watched him in the WJHC, but he was OK in the play in round.
That shot he took in the scrimmage was an above average NHL shot and he skates hard. He’ll make a few mistakes but he has a much better upside than 1/2 dozen forwards.

Nothing makes a player feel more part of a team than being laid out in front of your bench and your team does nothing.

welcome to Dubas’ Leafs Mr Robertson.

One for One and One for One!
