Niagara Icedogs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

It's pretty wild with how bad this team is defensively they did not make a single effort to improve it.
Missed opportunity there.
First place team that gives up the most goals in the conference.

No it’s not, like 2/3 of the east bought. Path of least resistance shows save the assets for a future year when they keep almost all of their major pieces. Buying a rental or a hugely overpriced 06 now would make no sense. Make the playoffs. Win a series ideally. But Niagara ain’t competing for a championship.

The team is quite simply too young, and small really to go beyond two rounds without significant additions that would require removals from the core. Let the 16-18 yr olds develop as a team.

It is clear to me they expect a decent playoff run this year and will go for it next year.

I expect they will address the D in the draft and off season trades.

And just like that ... Barrie on a 3 game losing streak. Ya gotta love it.

All the IceDog naysayers are pretty quiet this week. I know they would be here bashing DD and predicting doom and spreading gloom if it was the other way around.

I will ask again ... just give it a rest. Buy some tickets and support our excellent time. Its ok to admit you are wrong. Its ok to cheer on the team again.
Was on vacation. Back now, just in time to get a pleading phone call from the IceDogs intern, begging me to come back.

They are keeping the Loshko/Wassilyn line together tonight. Wycisk is out ... damn it. I hope its temporary.
Wycisk has the flu

Paris the game winner late in the third gave tge Icedogs a big win in Sudbury 5 to 4 .Assadourian also scored twice for the Dogs. Next game Sunday afternoon at home against Peterborough.

Admit you are wrong about what?

Sure, the IceDogs are doing better than expected this year but I think that has more to do with the coaching staff than anything.

I think you are forgetting how bad the last two seasons were as they had their two worst seasons in franchise history.

DD is still serving his two year suspension from holding the position of GM.

Attendance is down a whopping 1500/game compared to when the Burke's owned them. They're doing so bad financially that they are laying off their employees.

I give DD credit for hiring the coaching staff but he has pretty much ruined the franchise. For what its worth, I am cheering on the team and hope they go far. But I do think that the franchise's long term viability is in trouble.

As discussed before the paths to improving for next year are:

1) Import Draft (both slots open)
2) Overagers (Assadourian should be the only lock, and they aren't expensive to acquire)
3) The Big deadline trade - which will be centered around whoever we take in the first round.

I wonder however, if there's also a 4th path after seeing some of the recent NCAA transactions. Could we lure a free agent or 2 from the states to go on a championship run here?

Bigsportsfan, wrong that most everything DD has done is bad. Its more than just hiring and then promoting our excellent Coach. It is 2 excellent drafts and getting key players to report. Some good trades that gave our team depth up front. Being aware enough to grab Loshko when he became available. Ending all the crazy trading when the team started to gel.

I would remind you that the STH exodus started under the Burke regime with their scandals. So that problem is not all on DD.

Sam14, no comment on being back in 1st place? Instead you choose to find a negative with the number NHL drafted players. You barely ever say anything positive.

I am liking the lack of popups on this new platform.

I am guessing we will get 4 points this weekend. Go Dogs!

Hang on.... the trade deadline passed and we didn't make any trades???? Fantastic! Thanks DD.
Get “AdBlock Pro” on App Store and don’t pay for any of the ad ons and you get 0 ads it’s great. Before when I had it on it was heating up my phone and slowing it down because of all the ads. Now I have 0 problems with that.

Also great job DD. Is he alive though?? That was a great deadline from him not tearing apart the team.

If people don’t support this team(this year and next) they may as well switch to tennis at this point because you have a very talented, very young team and you’re going to have a very exciting team to watch in the coming seasons. If I lived closer I’d be making it out to any icedogs games that didn’t fall on the same day as the fronts. Roobroeck is going to be amazing, same with He, Czata is going to be an NHLer and a great OHL guy, Wassilyn continues to get better and better. Arrowsmith has a lot of good OHL potential (lightning it up at this level, we will see about NHL)

Reminds me of the fronts from a few years ago with young wright, wisdom, arcuri, Chromiak etc. very fun to watch and constantly making you say “just wait a year or two” had we not had that Covid year I think the team would’ve done real well that year and even better the year after. Still can’t believe the OHL was the only junior league in the world not to play hockey for that year.

Not trying to high jack the tread or leave it full of my thoughts but if you guys did as little as just selling off he and hanging onto roobroeck(hoping he comes back as a 19 year old) you’d get a kings ransom and you could focus on hosting the 2027 memorial cup.

If you go all in next year though that definitely won’t happen. You’ll have some teams going on with you:

Front runner Kitchener.

Guelph looks real good now too for that year, Sarnia will be good and I believe hasn’t made a bid since 2004- they’re due for one. You guys should be good as long as you don’t go all in next year. North bay will be good but they don’t have the arena. Same with Peterborough. At the very least you don’t get to host it you should be one of the top teams in the east and maybe you can play into it.
