Niagara Icedogs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

In normal times FrontsFan67 trading He at the deadline would have been the best move. Unfortunately, it was absolutely critical that we have a winning team and a decent playoff run to get the fans back and to send a signal to future players that we are not always in chaos and bottom dwellers.

I think it was the right move considering everything that has happened in the last 5 years.

St Catharines Merdian Centre host the Minto cup this year if that a success it may help in the Memorial Cup bid.

I don’t mean trades this year I mean for next. He won’t be back as an OA obviously. Could also argue roobroeck won’t be back as a 19 year old. I think next year they definitely have to trade He at the deadline to load up for the following season- they’ll still be competitive next year and maybe win a round even if they traded He. Then the next year 2026/27 they’d be looking to get that OHL championship.

Why can't they win the OHL championship next year?

Yes there are some holes to fill. But... He, Roobroeck, Wasilyn, Czata, Assadorian and Arrowsmith will probably be the most dynamic top 6 in the league. Brauti is a very good #2 dman. Kevin He is already one of the best players in the league. Roobroeck is on pace for 50 goals at 17 years old. Wassilyn is leading all rookies, basically a point per game as a 16 year old.

As I've stated before. Bring in 2 strong overagers, use the import draft well and you're really rounding out that team nicely (luring a player of two from the states could also be possible).

At the deadline you can make a deal that brings in an elite player and a strong supporting player, with whoever Niagara takes in the first round this summer as the center piece going the other way.

You also have a crop of players like Crete, Galiyanov, Virgilio, Hotles etc who you can either bank on getting better next season, or use some of them to beef up the top end of the lineup even more. Depth roles won't be expensive to fill.

Banking on 2 years from now makes little sense, as you very likely won't have players as dynamic as He and Roobreock to build around.

Sam, That was your back handed way of saying something negative about the Dogs, You were saying we have no chance of winning because we don’t have enough NHL drafted players.

That was your post this morning after we had a fantastic comeback to win on the road which gives us a 3 point lead in the Conference. You refuse to celebrate and congratulate the players because of your unhinged hatred of the owner.

Come on man, please start to enjoy the ride. You are wasting this moment.

p.s. I think you have far more knowledge of Junior hockey than I do. I value your posts. I am not trying to pick a fight or insult you. I just want you and the other naysayers to get back on board. Cheers and Go Dogs

Your interpertation of the post couldn`t be more inaccurate. It was an OHL factual post. That`s it.

What it can do is serve as guideline (education) for IceDogs fans (myself included), as to what the IceDogs need to do with this roster (perferably) next year while you have He and RR or the following year (if DD is determined to be a Mem-Cup host). It`s a point of discussion for IceDog fans serious about a championship team. Perhaps, this type of discussion is not for you and that`s fine, however, there are many on here that do like to discuss the topic of roster construct and OHL championships.

The IceDogs should be trying to contend next season. If Barrie returns (all) of their ‘06s and Brampton has all of their players that should return, there might be a tough decision to make at the next deadline. The central could be wicked next season.

Yawn. Real fans can do both, discuss the future and celebrate the surprising current team. You unfortunately seem only to focus on coulda’, woulda’ and shoulda’ in skepticism of the current management, passing along inneuendo and rumour and generally pontificating over everyone on this site. A real fan….i think not. The IceDogs really don’t need you much as you may disagree.

P.S. Remember Mickey Cheravaty?

I thought you took your net home and didn’t want to play anymore

Definitely agree! The first step in building this roster for 25-26 will be the Import draft. IceDogs need to hit on two!
