Niagara Icedogs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

It's pretty wild with how bad this team is defensively they did not make a single effort to improve it.
Missed opportunity there.
First place team that gives up the most goals in the conference.

No it’s not, like 2/3 of the east bought. Path of least resistance shows save the assets for a future year when they keep almost all of their major pieces. Buying a rental or a hugely overpriced 06 now would make no sense. Make the playoffs. Win a series ideally. But Niagara ain’t competing for a championship.

The team is quite simply too young, and small really to go beyond two rounds without significant additions that would require removals from the core. Let the 16-18 yr olds develop as a team.

It is clear to me they expect a decent playoff run this year and will go for it next year.

I expect they will address the D in the draft and off season trades.

And just like that ... Barrie on a 3 game losing streak. Ya gotta love it.

All the IceDog naysayers are pretty quiet this week. I know they would be here bashing DD and predicting doom and spreading gloom if it was the other way around.

I will ask again ... just give it a rest. Buy some tickets and support our excellent time. Its ok to admit you are wrong. Its ok to cheer on the team again.
Was on vacation. Back now, just in time to get a pleading phone call from the IceDogs intern, begging me to come back.

They are keeping the Loshko/Wassilyn line together tonight. Wycisk is out ... damn it. I hope its temporary.
Wycisk has the flu

Paris the game winner late in the third gave tge Icedogs a big win in Sudbury 5 to 4 .Assadourian also scored twice for the Dogs. Next game Sunday afternoon at home against Peterborough.

Admit you are wrong about what?

Sure, the IceDogs are doing better than expected this year but I think that has more to do with the coaching staff than anything.

I think you are forgetting how bad the last two seasons were as they had their two worst seasons in franchise history.

DD is still serving his two year suspension from holding the position of GM.

Attendance is down a whopping 1500/game compared to when the Burke's owned them. They're doing so bad financially that they are laying off their employees.

I give DD credit for hiring the coaching staff but he has pretty much ruined the franchise. For what its worth, I am cheering on the team and hope they go far. But I do think that the franchise's long term viability is in trouble.

As discussed before the paths to improving for next year are:

1) Import Draft (both slots open)
2) Overagers (Assadourian should be the only lock, and they aren't expensive to acquire)
3) The Big deadline trade - which will be centered around whoever we take in the first round.

I wonder however, if there's also a 4th path after seeing some of the recent NCAA transactions. Could we lure a free agent or 2 from the states to go on a championship run here?
