They’ve tried that with Jefferies, Frasca, DeWatcher, Hotles, Dianov…for maybe a combined 6 short shifts in 13 games.
DDD has been eager to make a trade for a F.
3 of the 5 of those guys shouldn’t be anywhere near an OHL lineup IMO

If the IceDogs are looking to add a F I feel like the obvious fit is to just sign Jaden Flora. IceDogs have already drafted him so no draft capital loss, he’s 6 foot and a RW and shoots R which are all things the IceDogs need and he had a good training camp with the IceDogs too. He has 15 points (7G 8A) in 18 games with Buffalo Jr. Sabres in the OJHL and he’s from St. Catharines. Unless there is a behind the scenes reason that he doesn’t want sign, get it done.

There’s a reason they’re looking for a F it’s cause the players they have that would be upgraded on aren’t good enough (Hotles and Dianov) I’m not sure adding yet another Jr.B player to that mix is the answer

OJHL not GOJHL so Jr A. My point is R shot RW is the target in a player based on us being low on both of those so he’s the perfect fit in that regards. Even with the hot start this isn’t the IceDogs go for it year based on their age so trading away draft capital for a rental doesn’t make that much sense for them. Trading a 5th round pick to get a similar player to Flora wouldn’t make sense (see NB trade for Briir Long). So this would be an incredibly low risk decision where there’s really no negative. Could see him playing a similar role to Doherty with slightly more offensive upside and slightly less defensive capabilities. And even if the IceDogs decide to upgrade later or just players have returned from injury/national teams there’s no loss.

Ever since the end of preseason, DD has been busy looking to add an experienced OHL F. Darren has some options available, just a matter of what he wants to do with his draft cupboard now.

Do you mean looking for a swing for the fences experienced OHL F that will cost a lot of draft capital? I.e. 05’s like McCue, Pinelli, Foster, Romani (just looking at 05’s on selling teams) or more like 2nd-3rd line level guys? I.E. guys like Marco Mignosa or Justin Cloutier from the Soo? (Showing bias to R shot RW)

As a GM, DD has proven to be impulsive and reckless. At a preseason game, fans explained their concerns, he said straight up “We have lots of picks!”

That’s what he believes, so who knows what he is thinking now after this fast start.

Take Pinelli out of your picture if you are looking at a player who will be coming back next year. I think he is Columbus AHL-bound . The OA market is going to be interesting this year with all the available OAs.

The question that you guys have is, are you a top 5 team after the deadline? Really allyou need to do is make the top 6 and it will be a good year and then win a series or 2.

You may be int he best position of all the top teams this year in that your owner doesn't necessarily want to win it all this year.

Trying to figure out what GMs are thinking is the biggest headache we have,
I said that Boyd wasted last year with picks, and this year, they should be selling, but then again, who knows?

I think that DD is looking at the M Cup and having a team led by Roobeck Wasilynn, who, with good coaching, is putting in a bid for the cup.

His recklessness has built the top team in the Conference.

I’m not defending him. Just pointing out that maybe give it a rest for a while and enjoy the ride.

Sorry, but the IceDogs are no where near the top team in the East. There are a minimum of 4 teams (Brampton, Brantford, Barrie, Oshawa and most likely Kingston too) considerably stronger than Niagara.

And please, respectfully, there is no need to tell me what to do or post. Instead, you can utilize the ignore option available. Who and what you read on HF is your decision to make.

Don’t think Dogs Enthusiast is saying top team on paper or that he expects IceDogs to finish at #1. Just saying that they are the #1 team in the Conference Standings almost a quarter of the way through the season which is something to be happy about and enjoy as something fans haven’t had in a very long time.

Kingston and IceDogs are close which is laughable considering how old that team is (this is supposed to be a go for it year). IceDogs are ahead of schedule. Yes would like to have more draft capital to play with next year and in 26-27 to give the team the opportunity to upgrade but focusing on last years trades or the year before is just an exercise in frustration that would rob me of the present. NVV, Doherty, Brauti, Scott, Virgilio, Loshko + a good draft. That’s a pretty good off season overhaul.

Reposting a comment I wrote earlier “As an IceDogs fan for IceDog fans, my posts are candid factual information, either from very reliable sources or research. The information can be both positive or negative.”.

My truthful post or comments (positive or negative) are not changing. Whether IceDog fans want to read them is a decision, that only takes seconds, to fix. HF boards is an excellent fan forum site in that respect.

And that is one of the primary concerns and limitations placed on this team by DD.

Now, if we are interested in having a meaningful, analytical and factual based discussion on where the IceDogs are this year, next year and the year after, I welcome that discussion with fellow IceDog fans

I agree with most of your posts and come the end of the I expect AT LEAST Barrie Brampton Oshawa and Brantford to be ahead of them Kingston and Ottawa are ? But what DE said is factual/truthful as of right now they are the top team in the east. As for the conversation of when this team will be going for it I’m not saying they’ll be good enough to do it but i think you have to go for it next year cause I HIGHLY doubt He is back for his OA year and depending where Roobroeck gets drafted who knows if he’ll be around either

Yes top of the standings, but the comment was (DD) “built the top team in the conference”. That is not accurate.

Agree. What you are saying makes sense. It’s. an interesting discussion for those IceDog fans looking to recapture those amazing championship years. With draft limitations (OHL and Import), recruitment issues, cost cutting and lack of draft capital, how does this 25-26 roster…

You do not really welcome that discussion as you cannot accept Virgilio, Brauti, Doherty, Chenowsky, Wray as 2-3 season additions that greatly increase the odds of the 2007-08 having success.

No one ever said that this was a division-winning team. This is a team that is going to be competitive this year. More competitive next year and the year after.
The hard part is going to be not rushing this team.

There is only one player on our team that fills the draft pick jar for later runs and that is Kevin He. Do we assure ourselves of a playoff position this year and trade him at the deadline next year for picks or do we trade him for a 2008 and picks this year (while he is hot and has great numbers) and keep picks for a Memorial Cup bid. We only have 1 more year of Kevin He so he will be gone for the year we bid.

You do consider moving He, you try to build around him imo. If the team appears to have no chance in Jan ‘26, then consider if the team is better off trading him.
