Defense is a huge hole. We need a couple of strong, reliable puck moving d-men. The puck will spend way too much time in our end this year.

What does this team need to be a playoff contender besides ownership
Roster compositions may allow Niagara to claim a playoff spot. Currently, Oshawa, Brantford, Brampton, Ottawa, Kingston, Barrie are playoff locks and one of North Bay or Sudbury would have to be sellers for Niagara to surpass them cyclically. 25-26 looks more promising than 24-25

I have a hard time imagining them missing this year. They'll have one of the top lines in the league. Next year they should be really strong

Niagara
just heard he needed shoulder surgery. both shoulders. not sure how long he's out, maybe he's not getting surgery and just tries to rehab?
That puts a wrinkle in things. His veteran presence is huge on this team.

I'd imagine if he's out, Roobroeck takes Center with He on the wing, and maybe they start with Paris or Levin until Wassilyn is ready.

That would be more hard luck for the IceDogs. Though you’d think if surgery was a serious consideration, Bryant would have scheduled that 2 months ago. That would have him returning at 100% strength late November with successful surgery and proper care and maintenance.

I agree with Oshawa Brantford and Brampton. Barrie and Kingston should be good teams. But tht leaves openings for you guys.
Kingston should be a lock for a playoff

Ottawa, Petes, NB is going to be rebuilding, and I am not sure if Ottawa will not be a complete seller this year.

Beast do you think Mews becomes available this year?

I assume Pinelli will be but I’m interested in your take on if mews/Marelli will be for the right price.

Yes, I think the price is right, but it will not be until the deadline and will depend on how the rest of the team's defence looks.

The price I think will be high for only one of them.

If I was a Fronts fan I would be looking at Mayich to start the year

It is also going to depend on how Boyd decides to do the retool. I can see either of them available, and almost all the 2005 forwards.

Fronts definitely got a bunch of OA’s in their sights. Mayich would be good so would McCoy from Sudbury and J Leblanc on NB.

Up front I see them looking at Trent Swick- would make sense for the physical prescience and he’s a LW which we are fairly weak for and he can play top line.

Then apparently they’re in on wakely but I’m not sure that’ll happen. Would love it though.

Me personally I’d rather have Mews over all of those guys. Especially if it means hypothetically we would get him for 2 years

Between the 04s, 05s and 06s Ottawa could roster a team with as many as 7 NHL drafted players, it doesn’t appear to be a complete rebuild, despite the lack of draft picks, but more of retool?

With the 67s, there are many holes that need to be filled. Depending on how players are when they come to camp and play this season, there is a complete lack of scoring, the same as last year.

To me, they are going to have to rebuild the team for the 25-27 season. That means that most of the drafted players that are on the team now will not be. Also if you look at the team most of the players tht were drafted in 2023 were late-round picks. Also, if you look at our Defence, we only have 3 good D returning.
