NHL TV ratings 2022/2023

The other two were people wanting to watch the weekly movie/show at that timeslot and then got too lazy to change the channel lol. For however small the fanbase is, some people love that pranking show on truTV.
I love Impractical Jokers it's not the same since Joe left tho.

If they are talking about now I would assume something like June 30, but he still has upcoming duties like the draft.
What Im getting at is how ambiguous the language is. So Chelios was let go (i,e fired) but Ferraro is gone "at the end of his contract" isnt that informative.

So Ferrarro signed a 2 year contract? Or is he being fired as well

Always enjoy the way there outlets soon thing. The comprising is a total of 6 games, only one of which is since 2009.
Always enjoy when people overlook other more relevant things, such as the "up 11 percent vs the 2017-2021 SC Final average cable viewership" meaning its still up vs the 2 NBCSN games per season we got in those years

Any way you slice it, Vegas-Florida isnt the disaster everyone thought it would be.

The game had the same viewership as Boston-Vancouver's two games on cable, and had more than what Penguins-Sharks got for their 2 cable games in 2016

All i'm saying is, I hope VEG don't win gm3 and go up 3-0 in the series.. It'll suck. It'd be great to see FLA tie up the series at home....We got 3M on a blowout game.. Imagine what we'd get for a gm7. I'd say 7-9M easily.

NHL is so unlucky, most NHL finals go 4 or 5 games. There's been only 2 finals in the last 14 yrs to go 7 games.. and both were blowouts.

Just once, i'd like to see us get lucky and have a gm7 go into double OT.

Don’t know how long contracts last. Sometimes talent is signed for the length of the rights (for example Pierre McGuire signed a 10 year deal with NBC when they got the full right in 2011), sometimes it is a few year or single year.

From what I have seen part of the rumor with Ferraro is he may be taking the Canucks open analyst job. His wife is an AGM there. Could be his choice to be closer to home and thus the ambiguous language.

This years first two SCF games are tracking ahead of 2006, 2007, 2008, 2020 and 2021.

These aren't good numbers, but as some of us kept saying, they weren't going to be the "worst ever."
Right where I expected this finals to go unless a team like Boston made it.

Most series go 6 games. There hasn’t been a sweep in 25 years (although that came at the end of a string of them in the 90’s).

Ratings are where you'd expect them to be considering the teams involved. Any opportunity for a ton of bandwagoning fans in the Miami area died when the Heat made the NBA Finals so this is honestly pretty good all things considered

Ratings were always going to take a hit on cable and the NHL was Pejorative Slured for keeping the SCF on cable in this deal when even the March Madness final is on the local CBS station. Very naive negotiating by Bettman here.

I agree. Ratings are doing ok. Turner Sports is doing job covering the finals. The one issue is it is still cable. The NHL always dipped 30-35% or so during the finals when the games were on NBCSN versus NBC. Seems to be the same pattern. 4.2 million viewers on ABC for game one last year. 2.8 million for game one this year on TNT/TBS/TruTV. 35% below last year.

Wasn’t by choice, Turner outbid FOX and NBC wasn’t interested. The mistake was negotiation the ESPN/ABC part of the deal before they nailed down a 2nd media partner since the B package was significantly weaker one.

Actually the March Madness Final alternates in same way the NHL deal does. One year on CBS the next year on TBS.

But such this large gap....and after all the U.S. expansion and relocations?

The gap has narrowed slightly compared to the 90’s. It always been a large of a gap like this. What each sport draws in comparison to each other has been basically locked into stone since the early days of tv, with the exception of the NFL just lapping everyone due to the event nature of football. They all grown and retracted at various points at close to the same rates. The only real example of a sport falling off is open wheel racing, but that just got replaced by another for, of auto racing in NASCAR. Soccer has grown as the number of outlets and the need for content has grown over the year, but that is it.

Sports are something that are handed down generationally and have a bandwagon effect, that locks in everything. The big annual sporting events in the 70’s are the same big annual sporting events in the 2020’s.

The NBA was getting about 4x the rating as the NHL in the 90’s and still is. Of course we can’t compare earlier than that because the NHL was on cable (and blacked out in favor of local coverage in participating markets), which was in even fewer homes than in todays cord cutting environment. So the gap used to be much much larger.

Expansion / relocations got the league a presence on US television, which frankly it didn’t have before.

Ferraro has been widely rumored to be John Garrett's replacement on the Vancouver regional shows. He will likely do some games this year - working around his ESPN schedule - and then go full time in 24-25. He lives in Vancouver and has worked for Sportsnet in the past. I think he even did some Canucks PPV games back in the day.
