It’s incredible how pathetic ESPN’s production is. They just bought the rights with zero intent to actually spend money on the production.

Signed very few on-air talents and just promoted their mediocre prior employees like Bucci, Levy, Kohn and Kaplan.

If you need any more evidence look at hires like Leah Hextall or Hillary Knight. Hextall was pulled from the WHL. They could’ve had Taryn Hatcher or Alexa Shaw for the playoffs, but got Knight, who isn’t remotely as experienced.

Even if they wanted a former player they could’ve gotten Manon Rheaume. They just get talent with minimal experience because they don’t have to pay them anything.

do +espn show the whole games or do they show highlights?
I have ESPN + on my Apple TV.

They show complete "regular season" games during the regular season. I'm not so sure, but the one time I looked for playoff games on ESPN +, I didn't see any games. I've been watching the playoff games on cable since then.
Anyone using NHL app on Apple TV.
It’s been complete buggy garbage for last month.
ESPN + was working fine on Apple TV. NHLTV.com is no longer offered in United States since ESPN won the broadcasting rights. Maybe you live outside of the U.S. or something?

One thing I don't like on Apple TV is their menu system. It takes too long to find the NHL game you want to watch (too many steps). You should just be able to select NHL games, and then pick the game using a table/text (that was the way NHLTV.com did it). Also, if they had a calendar function for past games, it would be great and more useful so that you could select games that have already been played that you missed. Again, I'd simply & reduce the number of steps and use a less graphical (drop the pictures) user interface.

Ya I live in Dubai.
Maybe since it’s not a primary app anymore in key markets they are just letting it wither and die.
End of the day it works just the interface requires a lot of going back ad coming back in. First world problems I know.

Hi,

I'm from Germany and using NHL.tv with my AppleTV which was fine last season because German paytv provider Sky doesn't broadcast NHL games which they do now. Most of the important games (G7 CAR-BOS, TOR-TPA, EDM-LA) were all blocked. For that kind of service, I won't pay another year with NHL.tv.
I would be fine of course, when I add another account with Sky but this isn't the plan. Also any complaints to the NHL are not really relevant, just stupid answers regardings tv contracts etc.

Does anybody has the same problem?

regards,
Foppa

ESPN+ has the worst user interface. Navigating all of their apps (mobile, computer, VOD) is a PITA. The list of games are a nuisance to navigate. On the NHL TV app, it was relatively seamless to navigate the calendar and find your specific team's games.

Back when NHL TV was the primary source, I would use it through my Roku. It, along with the MLB TV app, had a feature that would allow you to jump to specific periods or innings. This is an incredible feature and I don't know why they would get rid of it.

In additional to their buggy apps, I don't find ESPN's coverage of the NHL particularly well done. TNT and SN have more interesting coverage throughout the game and during intermissions with their panel of insiders. The problem with TNT/TBS in the US is that most cable companies require an additional "premium" package to get these channels. At least with the NBC contract, I could watch nationally broadcast games through my basic cable package.

TNT/TBS are typically on most every basic cable package (unless you are referring to the bottom tier packages that just give you your local over the air channels).

Yes, the bottom tier. I think we have TBS at the very least. Though I think TBS blacks out national games on that tier.

TNT is not included at all.

pretty satisfied with my 1st year of streaming the nhl pkg ''canadian '' version through my Roku device.

I had no idea playoffs were included with that price so thats a nice cherry on top .

Bell Satt. center ice did not include playoffs , at least in the past several years so in order to chase down the playoff games I'd have to add SN1 , SN 360 to my satt. tv pkg $$$ .

NHL on TNT is amazing. I really love that they are bringing the NHL into the entertainment sphere rather than the old boys club presentation.

I received an email from nhl.tv that they will no longer be available in canada after the 2022 playoffs .

I will have to subscribe to the sportsnet + pkg instead .

this sucks because roku doesnt carry the sn+ pkg but it wont be a big deal to run a firestick on the one tv that I watch hockey on .

Yeah , I got that email . We can use our nhl tv account to watch the finals on Sportsnet now if we desire . I bought a Chromecast with remote ( I wouldn’t want to cast a hockey game ) and will test it out . It might be better, I know watching on my iPad mini at work I always found the Sportsnet app ran more smoothly than the NHL TV app , so maybe this can be a good thing . I used a Roku also .

I also got the same email, I am assuming this means a huge overhaul to SN app coming as currently you can only watch the games televised on SN through them. It mentioned no change to price or the ability to watch all out of market games, hopefully they provide a free trial at the start of the new season.

Well this sucks from the NHL. I bought two Roku devices just to watch the NHL on my TV's and now I can't use them. Sorry buy SportsNet Now is awful. No app for TV. The NHL should be making games easier to watch, not harder. SportsNet better offer both home and away feeds otherwise it's a ripoff.

You can use Airplay to stream Sportsnet on your Roku device . I did it tonight and it works great, the quantity was perfect.

if they dont add it to roku before the season starts you can buy an amazon firestick and insert it into hdmi 2 .

you'd keep roku for everything else and use the firestick for sportsnet/nhl

My HDMI slots are already full with other devices using them. I really shouldn't have to buy more stuff to watch games beside the subscription. And if SportsNet doesn't have the rights in a few years than what? Something else. I'm getting tired of all this stuff. I missed a Blue Jay game a few weeks back just because I don't have Apple TV.

I've never tried it but might test it at some point if SN doesnt build an app for ROKU. You can have roku mirror whats playing on your iphone or other type of device . I'd rather do that than buy an amazon firestick but theres still time for SN to make something before season begins. My biggest concern is I havent heard many good reviews on the SN app . Issues like having to login several times a week and poor quality overall doesnt sound like fun . I suppose I could subsribe to a monthly plan to test it out over the next month and decided for myself whether those issues are real and if so , cancel .

The Sportsnet app on my iPad mini works very well at work where the internet isn’t very good . I actually find it superior to NHL tv as far as picture quality. The Sportsnet app on my Google Chromecast at home ( with tv ) has been a little glitchy but when I Chromecast to the tv with my iPad mini it has worked perfectly. I’m actually excited about the change and am enjoying the free trial until September.

I wouldn’t recommend using the Roku mirror feature. It worked well initially but if you join a game in progress it won’t let you re - start the game , it always went straight to the live action.
