Really weird camp roster announcements this year. A bunch of rookie camps open in a week or so and have no rosters yet (The Young Stars tourney, for instance, opens a week from tomorrow, yet none of the teams have announced a roster), yet here is the Blackhawks main camp roster.

Invites are
Tyler Barnes (AHL deal)
Bryn Chyzyk (AHL deal)
Chris Desousa (AHL deal)
Jake Dowell (AHL deal)
Alexandre Fortin
Jeremy Langlois (AHL deal)
Trevor Mingoia (AHL deal)
Evan Mosey (AHL deal)

Jonathan Carlsson (AHL deal)
Nick Mattson (AHL deal)

Jake Hildebrand (AHL deal)
Eric Levine (AHL deal)

I expect the Avs to take it to the last minute but I thought there would have been more this week for sure.

All those Chicago players are on PTOs???

That's correct. They invited all 10 players they have on AHL contracts (Barnes, Carlsson, Chyzyk, DeSousa, Dowell, Hildebrand, Langlois, Levine, Mattson, and Mosey) as well as as Fortin (who is eligible to return to the QMJHL) and Mingoia (who does not have a contract for the upcoming season).

---

Speculation that the Islanders have extended a tryout invitation to F Stephen Gionta, who has spent the better part of the last 84 years in the Devils organization.

I'm impressed. He's gotta be well over a hundred years old and still gets a PTO! Who is this guy anyways, Dustin Rose's grandfather? :sarcasm:

Islanders making sure they got enough veterans to dress for those preseason games :sarcasm:

But in all seriousness, that wasn't even a typo, personally I just find his case to be quite unique in this day and age: only 270 NHL games over 10~ years with just one organization (some of which were even played on AHL contracts) having only really become a full-time NHLer at 29.

Mandat (AHL), Rooney (AHL), Crawford, Sissons, Jarrett and Kuqali are your invites. Sissons is a guy I was amazed wasn't drafted: mobile D with decent size capable of some really solid up-ice rushesl his development last year was staggering from how he looked at the start of the season to how he finished up.
