NHL trade deadline thread (2025)

Assuming that Vancouver thinks they can fix Cozens. And assuming we think we can fix EP40
I guessed it was a confidence thing and the report posted on the board earlier today seemed to confirm it.

If that’s true, Pettersson is the perfect change of scenery player. Dahlin can be his buddy. I’m sure the Sabres have cognitive performance coaches.

Edit: I’m writing this while squarely on the opinion that I’d rather not trade Cozens because I think he’s a poor man’s Kreider on the wing or Cirelli as the 3C.

Impact top line centers are hard to get.

Doing some gorilla math here:

We are 3/4 done with the NHL season.

Detroit is retaining 1.3M for 1/4 of the season, so around 325k in cash.

So, they bought a 4th round pick for 325k

Evidently, that isn't something the Sabres are able or willing to do.

Deadline is usually around 21% of yr left in the 186 day year.

His act iy al salary I believe is 5.1M. 25% of 21% is around $270K

Buffalo does not nerd yo collect s bunch of picks in 4th-7th

I see it as an off season or at the draft deal

EP+vet+ prispect/25 1st for Cozens Byram/ Power/ Sam+ young C in kilich/Ostlund/ Helenius/1st 25 and some other things in this. The cap hits are close

I think some of the players are not playing hard so they will be traded and then they can play harder with the next team and get a nice contract

I would be okay with not trading them and let them deal with the consequences which will be less money

Sabres need to stop the cycle somehow

Does not apply to Zucker, he worked hard this year

If that was the case, breaking the cycle would be getting guys that aren't quitters, not keeping them out of spite

So, assuming that's true you'd think it would be a player with 1 year left:

Tuch
Benson
Clifton
