No wonder a deal didn't get done.

Nyquist, Mantha, Tatar/Jurco/Sheahan and a 1st

Holy moly.

As someone pointed out, Gillis wanted a young 20-25 center, prospect and 1st. She even stated that herself. Clearly can't count considering she listed 4 assets. It would be more like Nyquist + Mantha + 1st and IMO that's more than reasonable.

Has Winnepeg made a significant trade since they became an organization? can't seem to recall one.

Holy moly.

I think the report was wrong.

Nyquist/Manth, Tartar/Jurco/Sheahan and 1st.

If not then I figure Gillis was trying to pry Lindholm + Etem + Vatanen out of Anaheim. He's going to have to lower his price if that's the case.

So does someone want to tell me why so many people are angry Kesler was not dished, or can they not even explain it themselves

Pittsburghs package didn't fit this teams needs, more room to work with this off-season

Mine as well repost this here.

Helene St. James

She seems to contradict herself in that post. First says the asking price was 3 assets (as was widely reported elsewhere), then details 4.

I think it more likely it was Nyquist, one of Tatar/Sheahan/Mantha, and a 1st. Again, 3 assets not 4, and a reasonable demand.

If that's what Gillis thinks Kesler is worth, you guys will have him around for a long time, now that it's rumored that he wanted to be moved, it's only going to be harder to do so

I'd gladly keep Kesler for years, if his worth isn't being traded for. If you don't think he's worth a young center to replace him, a prospect and a 1st, then that's your opinion. I'm just glad you're not the GM of the Canucks.

I think its worth discussing. So far I've seen credible people talk about Ownership:
1. Forcing Gillis to sign Luongo
2. Forcing Gillis to hire Torts
3. Forcing Gillis to trade Schneider and keep Luongo
4. Forcing Gillis to nix a potential Kesler trade

Are any of these credible? Who knows, but definitely a valid discussion at this point..

and then owner seem to agree to let Luongo be traded and retain 15% of salary....did the owner force MG to hire Torts? we know the owner was involve in the hiring...

Hey guys ownership clearly nixed the deal.

Because teams are lining up to give a top end prospect, a 1st and a quality roster player for Kesler in a buyer's market. Like Detroit. Out of our division. In the other conference.

Find it disheartening that even posters who I respect on this forum are jumping to conclusions.

Gillis doesn't seem like he would accept being a puppet to Aqualini. Don't buy it.

So the excuse this year is buyer's market. Well at least that's settled.

What ever happened to simply...getting the job done?

He does to me.

"Gillis began by representing some former teammates, and over the years, his list of clients grew to include stars Pavel Bure, Tony Amonte, Markus Naslund, Mike Richter, Valeri Bure, Bobby Holik, Pat Verbeek, Ulf Dahlen, Peter Zezel and Marcus Ragnarsson. What makes Gillis' success as an agent even more remarkable is the fact that during his own playing days, he was represented by the notoriously corrupt Alan Eagleson, who later went to jail for defrauding many of his clients, including Gillis. After Gillis' stopped playing, he was eligible to receive disability insurance payments from the NHL. Although Eagleson had no right to do so, he convinced Gillis to pay him 15 percent of his disability money. He lied to Gillis in claiming that he had negotiated the a special disability deal, getting more money than Gillis would have otherwise received. Over 10 years later, in 1997, Gillis successfully sued Eagleson for $570,000, most of which went to cover his own legal costs for pursuing the lawsuit."

I don't see why. The guy has made millions upon millions as a player agent. He has no reason to be doing this here. Hell, he considered not renewing his contract at one point.

And this.

Looks like the prospect going to Nashville in the Legwand trade is Jarnkrok, aka "Mr. Untouchable in Rick Nash trade".

Honestly I wouldn't be happy with that deal for Kes. Needed a useful centre coming back.

I think that would be an absolute haul, I dont even know if i believe gillis was asking that much. Maybe just a starting point if even that.

Who are these credible people? The only thing I see viable is ownership pushing for a Lu signing since at that time he was pretty much the factor holding together the Canucks and the ownership obviously didn't want to lose that.

Everything else I see as pure speculation or there are other good sources contradicting those statements.

Regardless, the way people bandy around these statements as absolute truth is a joke.

People are upset about the trade because it means nothing will change for the rest of the year. Since the new year this team has been painful to watch and it's been clear that they aren't going to do anything in the playoffs if they even make it. Trading Kesler for a young roster player and top AHL prospect would mean that we could spend the rest of the season watching our youth play and being excited about the future. Like how many people here have enjoyed watching Tanev, Corrado, Lain, Kassian and Lack progress this season more than we've actually enjoyed the product on the ice.

so that pens deal make sense somewhat but I presume a young 20 to 25 year old is a top 6 and not the offer that pens had, sutter, despres, pick?

Looks like the prospect going to Nashville in the Legwand trade is Jarnkrok, aka "Mr. Untouchable in Rick Nash trade".

Curious to see him play somewhere else now. Has looked overwhelmed even on a good Detroit AHL team despite already being 22.
