At some points yes. He does not make sense now. He is 31 now and under contract at $8M per through 2030. Let someone else overpay for him.

Boeser would be a much better option at 27 and UFA at season end, but at 6.6M Mangiapane would need to be part of the package along with some good prospects or draft picks. And i don’t think we would do that unless we knew we could resign him. But then what… that puts the squeeze on Leonard and other youth. Probably would mean not resigning Raddysh and playing Leonard on 4th line. Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze but it would be an all in move.
Yea I like Boeser a lot, and I would honestly take him as a pure rental -- his extension really scares me.

They absolutely do not need to part with Mangiapane to make the deal work though. Vancouver would retain down to $3.3M and I'm sure any trade partner would be taking back Bear as well which clears another ~$1M. Caps already have $3.6M in LTIR pool space left according to PuckPedia

Boeser for Bear + Iorio + 2nd?

There’s just no way that gets it done. Have to throw in a first or a recent first . Bear has negative value, he’s not an asset.

I’d do Boeser for miro, lapierre, 2nd and bear

Bear doesn't have negative value at the TDL. Teams take back "bad" money on expiring contracts to get deals done all the time. Caps did it with Craig Smith in the Orlov trade.

As for the real price, every single rental ever gets around a 1st + another small asset. Vancouver has been rumored to be looking for NHL-ready young defenseman which is what would make Iorio appealing. I would not give up Miro for a rental, let alone him and Lapierre.

You guys are overpaying for a few months of hockey.

If we give up all that we better be resigning him.

Can't read it, what are they saying about the Caps?

And I'm game for Miller if Coach Boudreau says he's okay. He's a game-breaker we could use.

Caps not mentioned.

Some interesting parts:

“When the club is winning, Miller’s swagger, passionate energy and off-ice lightheartedness (he’s a huge chirper) can take a team to the next level. He makes the good vibes even better and can be a fun, popular teammate.

When the club is losing, Miller can become frustrated, charged up and on edge. He’s blunt and unafraid to speak his mind, which has ruffled feathers in Vancouver.

Miller’s not a “bad guy” — Vancouver’s former head coaches loved having him as a player and leader — but his emotions amplify the feeling of whatever a team is going through at a given moment, whether it’s positive or negative.

Our best guess of Miller’s trade value right now might be somewhere in the neighborhood of a first-round pick, a middle-of-the-lineup NHL forward or defenseman on a significant salary (to make the cap math work) and a young player/prospect.”

They also point out his contract is a risk at his age, and his play is down.

Good read, thanks.

I think Miller at 8 million is great value. I wouldn't be worried about that at all.

I don't know that the Caps need to add another C when there are areas of greater need, BUT, I do think that Miller would benefit from not being part of the core leadership group. We have a great room and our leaders could manage him, I think.

Yep… Mangi has to be part of any deal greater than 2.65 (assuming Milano comes back at 1.9 minus 1M sent down).

I think we will opt for an older expiring UFA under 2.5M for depth and leadership. Not sure who that is. But if we bring in big $, Mangi has to go out.

Eh.

We don’t have a lot of game breakers on offence, except a 39 year old Ovie.

We’re trying to win a cup here, and that means building a stacked roster. The best of 32 teams. Number One.
The theme all year is sum is greater than parts. We way outperformed in grabbing young undervalued assets who need a new home. That doesn’t scale in perpetuity.

right now I’d add a veteran F under the cap. We’ll lose some rentals in the offseason. No big deal with where we are at.

The more I think about it the more I actually really like Miller as an add ... in the offseason.

Reports are that 3 Metro teams are trying to close on a Miller deal: NJ, CAR, and NYR. NJ could offer someone like Nemec. Maybe CAR offers Kotkaniemi+. Miller at 2C for the Canes would be a big upgrade. The Devils are already so loaded up front. I think Dallas is the other rumor - hope he goes there and stays out of the Metro.

Further, there are rumors that CBJ are actively trying to get Boeser. I don’t know what’s going on in VAN, but seems like it’s a dumpster fire - maybe they’re gonna try to build around EP and get younger with picks and prospects.

With Strome and CMM severely regressing, I’m worried about our top 6’s ability to drive offense. Would be nice to make an upgrade. If Boeser is truly available, wouldn’t mind kicking the tires to see what’s up.

That would be hilariously bad deal for the Canucks. Miller propably doesn't have nearly as much value as people think around the league with his age and red flags around him but still some of these rumours are hilariously bad for the Canucks. Kotkaniemi and Roslovic were mentioned from the Canes? I mean... Kotkaniemi is basically young Lars Eller on a bloated, ridiculously long contract. Roslovic is a decent player but he's not some prospect anymore but a journeyman who was just recently traded for a conditional 4th.

Canucks can decimate their team if they want but if you are looking to give him away, please send him outside the Metro.

Kotkaniemi is a net negative given his production and contract. Allvin should be fired immediately if KK is the main piece back in a deal for Miller.

They’d probably ask for Necas, I assume. Or Bradly Nadeau if they’re looking at prospects as the main piece back.
