Sure… not impossible. But trading one of those guys isn’t going to fix things. firing the coach may be a better option. And for a GM trying to cover his ass, that is the path more likely.

I’m not really one of them. I was a Lavi supporter when he was here basically until the end where i agreed he should go at contracts end. But i thought they should have kept him another year while Carbery got a second year behind the bench in Toronto.Trading one key guy could completely alter that room.

If Ottawa craters and doesn't make the playoffs, what would people be willing to part with to acquire Tkachuk, if you have interest in acquiring him. The cost would be steep, but he's pretty much a unicorn. His contract has a no movement clause that kicks in next year, so I assume if they have another shitty year, they would try to move him prior to that, if they move him at all. I tend to think they would move some core adjacent pieces, but he may get frustrated and push the issue.

It'd basically come down to whether you move Leonard for him or not.
I wouldn't even though BT is a star player. At this point i'm too invested in Leonard and him being cost-controlled asset long-term plays a big role for me as even though BT is signed until 2028, i don't love the idea of handing another power-forward an 8-year contract right before he turns 29.

NY is in a free fall, it’s not surprising, and entirely predictable. He won’t make it to Christmas.
We could offer Protas/McMichael + Lappy/Miro + Fever/Sandin. Strome?
Don’t analyze my offer too much, just listing our valuable pieces.
I don’t know what Ottawa would want exactly. But the Caps have a lot of young already NHL ready players. They may be prefer to compete now as opposed to collecting more prospects.

I can't see the Rangers changing to a more defensively-oriented system, because I don't think they have the roster to play that. Not sure Lavy can coach it either - his approach with a slow Caps roster was to have a less skilled D corps than the one we've got now do a lot of pinching, with the result being a lot of odd man breaks the other way. And we didn't have a Shesterkin to cover that up. I see a similar dynamic with the Rangers - lots off odd man breaks against them, and just no resistance to the opponent going through neutral at all

Regarding Brady Tkachuk, my guess is that somebody would out bid the Caps. The Caps have power fowards on their team and in their system, so it's not as much of a need as it is for other teams.

If they move him I assume it would be in a "change the core" type deal and not a "rebuild with futures" type deal. Don't think the Caps have the piece to go back for him unless you're willing to part with probably Wilson or McMichael. Just don't see the fit unfortunately
That seems likely. We'd have to hope they love one of our guys for some reason.
He's definitely worth inquiring about.
The fit is the easy part. Unlike Wilson, Tkachuk is a top-line player and is a lefty. They play the same style, but in different spots.
I am very willing to part with McMichael for Tkachuk. Wilson has a NTC.
Obviously it's all a long shot.

I'd pretty easily trade CMM + B Prospect + a 2nd for Tkachuk. He's a 6'4, basically PPG, true power forward. Anyone not going all out for him would be crazy.

Maybe instead of gutting the team in the middle of an incredibly successfull season by trading away a bunch of homegrown players who are finally coming into their own, and what will probably also require a shitload of high draft pics as well to land this power forward who has taken Ottawa to such greatness, we could just push to fire the coach instead?
Obviously, the Caps need a shake up right now, because the re-tool is going so horribly... so let's burn this puppy down right!

It would have to be an “I want OUT!!!” moment from Tkachuk. That’s the only reason to deal a guy making 8.125m for the next 3 seasons after this.
Trust me — I am not thinking it’s even a thing. BUT, if it was, i wouldn’t hold back CMM as a reason not to do it.
