I’m sorry but this is a very inaccurate statement. The vast majority of people (if you agree with them or not) develop their moral foundation off of the religious beliefs they grew up in or joined later in life. A persons spiritual beliefs greatly shapes their world view. To say people are bigoted so they go find or shape a god to fit that as an excuse is not only short sided, but frankly insulting.Yeah, but in many cases religion is just used after the fact to justify bigotry. It's really unlikely that people are growing up in a vacuum without any preconceived ideas about homosexuality and then forming an opinion after careful consideration of their religious teachings. It's just super convenient that their god shares whatever prejudices they developed independently.
Also I need to correct something I’ve seen multiple times here. Disagreeing with a persons actions/lifestyle is not bigoted. There are a lot of things that I feel is morally wrong that I have done and others have done. Saying I don’t support those actions isn’t bigoted. I love my kids but that doesn’t mean I live everything they do. Calling people slurs, firing from work without cause, segregating, physically assaulting etc.. those are bigoted actions.
We can discuss wether this situation was handled correctly or not. Is there a better way to voice your beliefs while being compassionate to others. I’m fine with that discussion. But calling people of faith bigoted and using faith simply to be hateful is more bigoted than not wearing a jersey in warmups. Let’s have this discussion without throwing around blind accusations.
