Good news for Caps fans hoping they can nab a playoff spot. Boston could be much, much worse next year.

Do they even have any picks left?
We already have their 2024 3rd round pick and their 2025 2nd round pick… I’ll take their 2025 1st round pick for Kuzy at $5M ($2.8 retained).

Boston could be in the hurt locker soon. They don’t have a 2024 draft pick until the 4th round. They don’t have second or third round picks in 2025. They have a bad prospect pool. They do have some very attractive trade pieces but selling those players means they’re likely rebuilding.

Also no cap room to work with. 5.4M in cap space with 12F, 8D, and 1G under contract and Frederic and Swayman still needing deals. They've barely got enough assets left just to pay for the cap dumps they'll need to make room to replace Bergeron, let alone acquiring the actual replacement. Not a lot of options left. Crazy how hard the crash has been from the top of the hockey world in April.

This right here is why I can't be mad at GMBM. You can paint yourself into a corner "going for it" and lose everything in a fluke anyway.

Congrats on the retirement. I remember pretty hindsight 20/20 bitter that he was a 2nd round pick that was missed by the caps.

What a draft class 2003 was. I dont remember why we didnt have a 2nd rounder.

Fehr was a OK NHL player. I remember wanted Parise pretty bad after being a USA hero in the JR champs. And the Devils traded up the pick ahead of us and take him.

I'll do Kuzy for Frederic straight up.
Can’t see Boston having much interest in this unless they think they think they have a 1-2 year window with the current team and that Kuznetsov moves the needle for them in that window. Frederick is younger and cheaper which is important to a team like Boston.

I could see Boston moving something like Frederic, their 2025 1st, and someone like DeBrusk to Winnipeg for Scheifele or to Calgary for Lindholm (or for PLD before that ship sailed) but not for someone as risky as Kuznetsov.

Kuznetsov really f***ed himself and the team by mailing it in last year. If he played like #KuzyMagic then he’d be a lot easier to move which would be beneficial for everyone. As it is, he’s a 31-year old malcontent coming off a terrible year in which he was arguably one of the 10 worst defensive forwards in the NHL. Not great, Bob.

Boston - best regular season record in the history of the league.

Up 3-1 in the playoffs against Forida and then lost the next 3 - over and out.

I wouldn't call that a fluke. It's a next level choke job.

Although admittedly the end result is the same. Bruins are screwed and will be for a few seasons. And I couldn't be happier about it!

Boston was screwed this year whether or not they “went for it.” I’d kill for Washington and Ovechkin to have one final shot at glory like Boston did last year rather than slowly circling the drain as they are currently doing.
What about contract windows don't you understand, then? Only a complete doofus would look at the Capitals and go right now is the time, it needs to be right now, let's go all in.

I don’t think they should go all in this year, but I think they should be planning to go all in 1-2 years from now in order to try to get Ovechkin another Cup. I don’t think they should let his career end with a whimper when it comes to team success.

Then it isn't an either/or situation like your last post would make it. How they're "circling the drain" right now instead of planning to go all in with all the cap space in the f***ing world in the next few seasons is all ultimately down to your own bias.

I’m simply saying that the current trajectory is a downward one and they can’t draw it out too long before making their move to go all in.

The all in move should be planned the second Backstrom and Kuz contracts are gone. In the meantime collect top 10 picks.

I'm glad Bruins are screwed. Those upcoming picks are going to be good ones.

I mean, if we are out-of-nowhere playing at a 130+ point pace in the January then we would absolutely go for it. Bruins didn't exactly 'go for it' during last summer. They were bracing themselves for a tough season with Marchand and McAvoy out long-term to start the season and everyone expected them to miss the Playoffs.
