This debate reminds of the one about 10 years ago that if Spain and Barcelona played against each other which one would win. Depends on which side the Barcelona players who also represented Spain would play.

Probably a bit similar with comparing national teams and NHL-teams.

In this case, the overlap between Tampa and Team Canada isn't that big. Stamkos... who else?

Bro, the Stanley Cup has been competed for long before the idea of wrongful NHL participation in the meaningless Olympics. Your entire diatribe is akin to saying NCAA football is better than the NFL. It isn’t even close. The Olympics were never about pro participation. It’s a meaningless contest for amateurs. It should remain that way. The Cup is the pinnacle, period.
The Stanley Cup was originally for the top amateur Canadian club team. By your logic, the Stanley Cup was never about pro participation either.

Barcelona wouldn’t fit under the cap.

Its still unlikely we see NHL players in Olympics propably some mega covid variants will rise this winter and this will go to toilet and it will be nice;)( i dont really hope for mega covid variant to strike globally i want to play hockey myself xD)

If you have a death wish, maybe you should leave the rest of us out of it.

The IIHF President Luc Tardif to media: Every country needs to have a plan B for case of covid because the agreement with NHL is not definitive.

1988 was actually the first Olympic hockey tournament where professionals were allowed, including those who had played pro hockey and then returned to Europe.

For example Matti Hagman was counted as a professional and therefore he wasn't able to play in Lake Placid or Sarajevo.

Hagman was officially a firefighter in Finland. Of course in reality one of the best-paid players in the Finnish league at the time, but salaries were paid in cash which conveniently also made them tax free.

Good decision. The Olympics will always be far more important than a regional contest among American cities like the Stanley Cup.

I have noticed that it is mostly American hockey fans who value the Stanley Cup more than Olympics gold. This is not a criticism just an observation.
