The majority of which fans? The ones in North America, the only ones Bettman cares about.

So the international game will suffer because the NHL wants to pander to casual hockey fans who don't really give a crap about international competition. Great.

Worst thing about the Word Cup is listening to posters like you whining insistently about the format.

Team NA is 100000000000000000000000000000 times more exciting to watch than team Belarus.

Finally get to watch some exciting international hockey instead of the lame crap they play at the Olympics where 1 in every 3 games is worth watching.

You want to go watch the Swiss trap their lives away then just wait till the Olympics where they all skate around the ice accomplishing nothing because god forbid someone from the team leaves the middle of the ice.

The poster I quoted has already made up his mind, and prefers to be grumpy about his presumption. I'm not grumpy, so I'll get over it if I'm wrong...even though I'm quite certain I won't be.

As far as I can see he is entertaining the possibility that they return, while you said that they will not be returning. Your statement was the definitive one, but anyway we will have to wait and see.

Ah yes, the best part of international hockey is surely the non-national teams. If only there were some sort of entity where the best players in the world could join together to form teams, regardless of nationality. A league for players of any nation where hockey is played. Wouldn't it be great if that existed and spared us from the international hockey that is best on best that has been played twice in the last ten years.

Agreed. The amount of complaining about the WC is growing really tired. Dont watch if you arent interested

lol at Derian Hatcher scoring 3 goals in 3 games.

Weird United States wearing white jerseys - Canada wearing red jerseys - in all three games of the final.
Ya think United States would have worn their Blue jersey and Canada their white jersey in at least one of the games.
Either Game #2 or Game #3 - just to be different.

Those fawning over TNA will think twice in 2020 when Connor McDavid is hands-down the greatest player in the world and he still won't be old enough to play for Canada.

No...he wasn't being definitive at all...:shakehead

The 96 world cup included one of the greatest goaltending performances that never seems to get talked about. At least that's what it seemed to me back then.

It should be interesting to revisit it and see if I still feel that way about Mike Richter in that tournament.

I think it's because the score of the final game is 5-2, which might be the most misleading scoreline of all time. It's difficult to think of a goaltender being the absolute key player when his team wins 5-2, especially with only one empty net goal. Leclair's great performance is also often forgotten.

Yeah the 5-2 score is certainly misleading

I hope the doco covers the road to the final for both USA and Canada. Especially Sweden v Canada double OT semi final. The best game I have ever seen.

I remember when the NHL Network was in Canada, it was cheaply run and had basically zero content asides from NHL Classic series and Frozen Time (which they did not air that often). The NHL Network Americans are getting is much different than the one under Bell.

USA Hockey and NHL Network will give fans a chance to relive the glory of Team USA’s 1996 World Cup championship beginning Wednesday at 7:30 pm Eastern Time. The 20th anniversary multimedia event will include USA Hockey LIVE-tweeting the decisive Game 3 in conjunction with NHL Network’s re-broadcast of the epic showdown between the United States and Canada at the inaugural World Cup.

As part of the celebration, USA Hockey will be tweeting special content and perhaps even a surprise or two throughout the broadcast. Fans are encouraged to join the conversation using the #WCH1996 hashtag. So plan to keep one eye on Twitter (@USAHockey) and the other on NHL Network while you watch arguably the greatest team in United States hockey history skate onto the ice in Montreal for this memorable clash.

After the game, NHL Network will debut a new documentary about the game - “Orchestrating an Upset.”
