Let's crash at Lakehurst today - yes, we here at Flaming Zeppelins HQ get a song as well. Every morning over the last couple of years, or at least most mornings, I make my coffee, sit down, and open up whatever version of this thread is currently in progress. I might also check up on whatever disaster is currently the news. Believe it or not, there's actually a song for that!

Off of the seminal Spiderland album, which you should all check out, the cryptic story in the lyrics features a lonely captain haunted by a shipwreck and a boy who has somehow been wronged. Perhaps he was kidnapped and taken to an alternate dimension against his will?

Now we head down I-95 to the city where bad things happen to associate with those dastardly Villains. Among his most heinous criminal acts, @GKJ has sniped me on several heartbreaking picks, most notably Le Petit Prince, which I don't think he's even read. So this one's for him, and all of you other thieves out there.

Incidentally, I'm pretty sure this was the song that introduced me to Superchunk, who would become arguably my favorite band for the next few years (along with Pavement and Sebadoh), and to this day their 95 show at the Troc is the best I've ever seen.

I not only read that book, I had to translate it in high school. From Spanish.

Hello from the Land of the Semi-Retired! I’ll make these quick.

For our Classic Actor, we wanted a foil to pair with Cary Grant in both comedic and dramatic roles. Surprisingly, the first name that came to mind was available. Plus he was a notoriously bad gambler, so we’ll probably get to take back whatever we pay him.

Walter Matthau

With the flip side of Classic Actress, we’re going slightly off the board to take a fellow wop and the person behind still my single favorite performance ever with her role in Rome, Open City:

Now for the Artsit. I was ready to go extremely retro here, but in flipping through the selections, I realized most franchises did too. So let’s not do that. Let’s take it one step further and go with an active watercolorist who draws heavily upon Renaissance Masters and the Ghibli’s own Waterhouse:

Girl showed me this song wayyy back when we first started dating! Great choice.

I figured it was going to be High Time by the Grateful Dead

Wait, Girl is a Fall fan? She's a keeper.

It was actually the very first song I picked for this list, and even inspired it. I was just listening to a little Fall one day and this one came up, and the lightbulb went off.

p.s. You should know me well enough by now to know that I would never willingly associate with that other band.

Team Franchise Mash-Up

With multi-verses all the rage and all, each of us would take two distinct franchises (could be anything films, TV, books, commercials, cartoons, whatever) and mash them together to create something new in the Quackverse. For example, I already have GoT & Arrested Development. I could choose to create a new franchise out of the two of them, Arrested Westeros. That's actually already a thing, and I wouldn't do that anyway, but you get the idea.
