"To jump into the legendary actor/actress category, the owners of the Tampa Bay FireSticks are immensely pleased to choose one of the all-time acting legends of Hollywood:
Gregory Peck.
Born in 1916 in La Jolla, California, Mr. Peck's parents separated when he was 5 years old and he went to live with his grandmother. It was she who instilled his love for films by taking him to the movies every week. Mr. Peck studied pre-med at UC-Berkeley but switched to theatre. He enrolled in the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York and debuted on Broadway after graduation in
The Morning Star." in 1942. By 1943, he was in Hollywood, where he debuted in the RKO film
Days of Glory (1944).
From this start, Mr. Peck accumulated 58 acting credits, including 1 Best Actor Oscar win in 1963 for
To Kill a Mockingbird, and 4 other Oscar nominations. Mr. Peck also won 4 Golden Globe awards in 1964 (
Captain Newman, MD), 1978 (
MacArthur), 1979 (
The Boys from Brazil), and 1999 (
