There's also the northwest part of the state, with views of the mountains or the gap. Lots of nice places to live in Jersey. It's one of the perks of having a home that I can plop down wherever I want.
On a serious note, I actually live in a suburb. I have nothing against where I live other than the taxes and the fact that it's a suburb - I'd prefer more space between myself and my neighbors and some nicer scenery. But that's the tradeoff I had to make when I ended up doing what I do. I personally can't understand folks who live in cities, but that's because I don't like crowds and noise. But some people do, and that's fine. It's the beauty of having the ability to make our own choices on where we live.
Having the ability to run errands on foot is the best part about city living to me. If it's a nice day, I don't want to be stuck in traffic and miserable. So I found a place that's a city but is only crowded for ~25% of the year because it's what works best for me.
But my SO prefers it away from people too, so we probably will. The debate is just whether we go rural or mountainous. Basically we'll buy something as far out as we can go while still getting good enough internet to work from home. She wants to remodel an old farmhouse.
