Almost everyone's going all scary monster with their Horror Movie Character picks. The NJFZ are going to go in a different direction.

Team Horror Movie Character: (Rambo) Gizmo

gizmo-gremlin.gif

Our urban myth is gremlins and we built a supergroup around the Scottish band Mogwai, so this just feels right. Our hero starts off as a fun-loving tuneful big-eyed ball of fur, but by the cult classic Gremlins 2 becomes a lethal vigilante after being pushed too far. As he learns from John [Ranch]bo, to survive a war, you gotta become war!

@Magua, I know you already picked The Thing, but you could have had any one of these brilliant creations instead:

One of my favorite Key & Peele skits lol

The Honolulu Ghibli select as our Team Card Game Monster……The Leshen

I know my Witcher loving boy, @DancingPanther , looks on with approval. The Leshen is from the card game Gwent, and it’s a Slavic-rooted mythological monster that rules over forests. “Immune to human steel, it is believed the leshen is nature's way of protecting the forest and the animals that live within it from the threat humans started to pose upon their ravaging expansion deeper into the lands.”

Do you ever go into a thread and feel like you are the only one who ever opens that thread?

I'm going to pretend like yesterday never happened. We start this new, fresh day with Striiker on the clock, but he is under the weather and will drop in to make his picks when he can. So @CanadianFlyer88 is on the clock with two picks. Unless Striiker comes on to tell us that he is good to go, CF88 should tag @Magua after his picks. That leaves @mja on the lido deck, me on the lido afterdeck, and @Chuck Downie in the outer hallway waiting for someone to show up in the draft he is running.

I finished "Paris Police 1900," and it was excellent, and I watched another episode of "Stranded," and it was stupid. It's a good thing the Avs won that game in overtime. The media keeps splooging up the wall over that one save that Binnington made stretching backward across the crease, but the f***ing thing was moving at about half a mile per hour. I'd like to see that pencilhead melt down again. That would be fun. Go, Avs, Go! Tonight we have an even more important stupid thing to watch, with the Battle for Alberta. I'll remind you again that this is a case of good (Flames) versus evil (Oilers) and whatever Biff says about Calgary is almost surely dead wrong. Also, hockey sucks.

Let's have a nice day in here today, m'kay?

Started my day unable to dial in to a Zoom meeting, followed up by hopping in the shower only to have the power go out in my neighbourhood. Thing is, with a tankless water heater, when the power goes out, the hot water goes away. Huzzah.

So, I'm in a good mood.

With our first of our back to backs here, we'll use this opportunity to choose our double dipper and appoint Mos Def as our Master of Ceremonies (aka MC). For any organizational event requiring an MC, Mos will be the guy.

For our second pick, we'll go with our niche sport, one that is hilariously unnecessary, but is also hilariously entertaining.

The Seattle Sockeyes are feeling lucky to add Gaelic Football to the fold.

@Magua, hope your day has started better than mine.

This is a massive upgrade over regular old European football.

Pet Peeve: This has become a trend over the years especially since the pandemic started. I don't mind people who have music in their cart but if I can hear it on the next hole over, its way too loud. I know this sounds like a get off my lawn take but I just don't want to hear your music while I'm playing golf. This has only become a problem over the last year or two, but you don't need your speaker at full blast on the course.

@Striiker

I haven't golfed in a long time now, this would drive me insane. Totally insane. I would end up on the news.

Horses are majestic creatures. But not half as majestic as toy horse heads on wooden sticks.

The Honolulu Ghibli announce as our Team Niche Sport: Hobbyhorsing

Over 10,000 people in Finland — usually young girls, but we’re here to grow the game — compete in pretend equestrian jumping and dressage on hobbyhorse-back. It’s about rhythm, gymnastic control, skill, imagination, social awkwardness, and total lack of shame. Hobbyhorsing is for the people who wanted a pony as a child, and their parents responded, “F*** outta here.” They internalized that trauma and out came this:

The beautiful game.

@Striiker
In the city, albeit certain parts this has been an issue for years.
The new thing is monster stereo systems on motorcycles and trikes and the like.

I now realize it’s cart as in golf cart and not car. Sorry. I pulled an @Asnito

Due to a series of mildly traumatic experiences as a child, I'm just not much of an animal person. Despite this, and the fact that we spend large chunks of time in another country making pet ownership really inconvenient, my wife and daughter conspired to bring a cat into my house. And I particularly hate cats. Again, mild trauma.

I hate everything about cohabiting with a cat. I hate that it gets hair all over the place, I hate that he scratches up my furniture, I hate that my kids suck at cleaning out his litter box frequently enough so that it doesn't smell like cat pee, and I hate trying to figure out who's going to watch him while I'm sitting on a beach on the Mediterranean getting my eyes poisoned with bad tattoos.

I wasn't going to make this pick next, but the pressure is on to clear the air after the previous horrendous and despicable selection.

Having double-timed Bae Suzy to Team Spokesperson, I am going to actually fill the babe spot with the woman I was originally going to choose for it. I'm perfectly happy with Suzy and her bunny teeth, but if Kiko Mizuhara isn't literally the most beautiful woman in the literal world, this one definitely is.

Again, this is less of a simp job, and more of a "cleanup on Aisle Zeppelin." But also a total simp job.

No thank you. Too much maintenance.

I laugh though, because my brother-in-law actually bought a pony for my niece. They're rural, not rich. That was years ago when she was in her early teens. Now she's 21. Shockingly, she has no use for a pony.

Also, you know what I really hate? When small bits of litter fall out of the litter box onto the tile floor, but then my daughter doesn't clean it up well and then I'm stepping in dirty cat litter. It's the worst.
