Has the MLB, NBA, NFL played in Australia? MLB, NFL in China? Any major North American league in South America? or Africa ?
Major League Baseball has played official games in Australia, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, and the United Kingdom, along with spring training games in China.

It does also sometimes get cold and snow in major cities in Mexico (including Mexico City). It snows more often in Mexico City than it does in Los Angeles.

Years ago I used to listen to a show out of Indianapolis called “Trackside Live” that covered IndyCar and would mention NASCAR and F1. One thing that often came up when talking about possible venues where IndyCar could race was IndyCar just couldn’t go ton Cleveland, Montreal, Edmonton, Portland etc. There had to be someone there who wanted them, would help set things up, advertise it, make other arrangements, etc.

Is there any group in Mexico looking to get a regular season NHL game , willing to handle things, a suitable arena?

Lol who the hell cares?

Of all the markets, gonna tell ya, that ain't the one.

It would be far more useful and productive to focus on communities within the US and Canada.

And future demographics of America? You're assuming everyone in Mexico will be moving to the US?

No team wants to go to African until all the yellow cake is gone. Serious stuff.

We have some NHL games as a package on cable, but I think there could be more interest with a game or two in CDMX. We also have quite a few competitive figure skaters, so there's rinks

In 2025 nascar , nba , mlb and possibly the nfl will all play regular season games in mexico next year. Considering the future demographics trends of America and the biggest market for North American sports outside of an and a why hasn’t the nhl played at least an exhibition down there? Why is the nhl so behind on this type of stuff?
Ok and?

It would be better to have games in southern states where football is big. They should align themselves with American football and be a spring substitute for football. It’s fast moving and with physical contact like American football. Baseball’s fan base will soon be aging out.

The NFL, NBA, and MLB all make most of their revenue from tv contracts. The NHL is still very reliant on people physically attending games. Games in Mexico barely move the needle in this regard. Cultivating a market in Mexico is a much steeper hill to climb than targeting southern states.

More lucrative tv contracts in the US and Canada is the shortest distance to travel.

Why is playing in Mexico an absolute necessity?

I can think of 22 million reasons why.

Mexico City is the largest city in North America, with a metro area nearly 60% of Canada's TOTAL population. Plus since it's the same hemisphere as the NHL, there's no issues with time zones (unlike Europe).

Does that mean it could support an NHL team full time? Doubtful

Could they hold a exhibition game there and sell out? Absolutely

Ah yes, enter cartel-infested and controlled territory for a few extra billionaire bucks.
Sounds promising.

Maybe cause it is the only one played on ice??? Also, why does the NHL care about playing in Mexico? Are they a hockey hotbed or something?
No more or less than the Southern NHL markets that ended up embracing NHL hockey and contributing to league growth.

You don't have to be able to go outside and play hockey to like watching hockey, buy merchandise, and spend money on hockey. When quality management has taken over across the US South, from North Carolina to the Florida teams to Tennessee and Texas, the game has thrived and people who didn't watch hockey before became NHL fans.. They have passed that fandom down to successive generations, new fans who also spend on the NHL. Those new markets also contribute to the global player base because those kids want to play.

It might be a tough sell, but that's the reason they might want to try to make inroads in Mexico. There's 21 million people (metro) in Mexico City (23 million in the urban area), tops in North America. There's widespread poverty, of course, but in a city that large there are still several million DF residents with serious money. Cultivating their fandom isn't the worst idea in the world.

Seems like a novelty that will have terrible presentation from the NHL networks.

Every sport that goes there, does so because of an affiliation of some type. Residents are fans, potential expansion area,etc.. what would the NHLs motivation be? Mexico has no strong national hockey program or desire to expand to the country as far as I am aware.

Toronto/Vegas should play the first game there.
