Not that this comes as a surprise but Shanny will be talking to Brown this afternoon:
This from Jon Rosen (LA KINGS Insider)

Sources: NHL hearing with Brown
Posted by JonRosen on 24 April 2013, 8:03 am
Dustin Brown has a 1:00 PM phone hearing with the National Hockey League stemming from his second period hit on Minnesota Wild forward Jason Pominville, according to several reports.

I don't think he'll lose games, he's got a clean record. It had to be reviewed, but it might end at that.

It's a phone hearing, so it'll just be a fine, right?

Meh, Suspend him for 2 games and get him nice and motivated for the playoffs. Big Whoop. It would'nt have been an issue if the refs would have just called it a 2 and left it at that.

no, phone hearings can bring suspensions, but it will be less than 4 games. An in person hearing would allow for suspensions of 5+

I believe you mean it could be 4 games or less.

As for the hit, here it is:

Personally I don't think he should be suspended at all, or even have had a penalty on the play. He knows he's coming, but never turned his head to look at Pominville, so there's no targetting of the head. All he's doing is bracing himself for a hit while trying to play the puck, and unfortunately caught Pominville in a bad way. In this case, basically **** happens. I just hope Pominville is ok.

I don't know if you can say "big whoop." The kings need wins. The last thing we want us to lose home ice to the sharks, and Brown is the only guy outside of Carter that seems to be able to find the back of the net lately.

He has no "history" right?

Should just be a fine, maybe 1 game

The other angle from the wild feed looks way worse. I won't be surprised if he does get a suspension, but I sure hope not.

The hit looks worse, but watch Brown's head. Not once does he even look towards Pominville. To target the head without even looking at him would be extremely hard to do, and it's all about intent. There's nothing to prove intent coming from Brown on any feed, which is why I chalk it up as a poor result, but not something worthy of even a penalty, nevermind a suspension. 99 times out of 100 nothing happens on that play.

EDIT: Not to mention the damage is likely done more from Pominville's head hitting the ice than the hit itself.

With Rosival in the playoffs and more recently the game before with Roussel, I wouldn't be surprised if Brownie gets a couple of games. He plays on the edge and can be a polarizing player for fans.

From an article in puck daddy:

Michael Russo of the Star Tribune didn’t mince words:

Brown, who amazingly has never been suspended, does this time and time again and somehow gets away with it. I was told today by a league source that he came “very close” to getting suspended for what I thought was a very dirty elbow on Dallas’ Antoine Roussel two nights ago.

If that hit on Roussel is fresh in Shanny mind, coupled with the injury (probable concussion from premiliarty reports) that doesn't bode well for Brown.

I can't believe that there's a 27 page thread alrady on the main boards about this hit.

Yeah, the Wild feed looks like he lunges a bit as Pominville come at him. Brown still doesn't turn his head at all and honestly braces for a hit but has his elbow up due to the odd angle he was playing the puck. Not justifying, just trying to point out that it looked more that both were victims of the circumstances and nothing intentional. Probably a fine... But it's Shanaban so I wouldn't be shocked if he gets 20 games... :shakehead

I hope he doesn't get suspended but I think he will get 2.
Misisng a playoff game is too much, especially with no history.

Yeah, that was an unfortunate event for both parties. Brown braces for contact, Pominville comes in low, kapow right in the face. This wasn't like in basketball where a player grabs a rebound and swings his elbows around to create space ala Karl Malone. Nobody even went after Brown, so it wasn't egregiously obvious or anything.

2 games tops if anything and only because of the Roussel hit the other night.

the hit (elbow) to the head wasn't intentional or malicious. DB knew he was coming and initiated contact with Pom before Pom made it. guys do this all the time. the angle of Pom's body and DB's stance lead to the hit to the head. Pom's head went straight into Dustin's elbow. the fact that Brown initiated the hit is why this is in question. if DB didn't see him coming and Pom checked Brown then this conversation doesn't happen.

Just like with any other incident, you can pretty much bet the house on the reaction depending on which side you're on. If it happened to a King, most Kings fans would have the same reaction as most Wild or Ducks/Canucks/Coyotes/Blues fans have.

As a Kings fan, there's little reason to try and defend it. That's just going to be assumed to be using homer glasses. Not much reason to try and say he should be suspended either, since you'll be in the very small minority that won't really have their words read through all the other hate.

So it's up to the league. If he gets suspended, Wild/Ducks/Canucks/Coyotes/Blues fans will cheer in celebration for finally getting the dirty Dustin Brown. If he's not, they'll all say the league is a joke. Whatever happens, Kings fans will say, eh, whatever, time to move on, since the Kings aren't the team that maybe lost a player to a concussion. Any fan base would do the same thing, either way. It always depends on the given perspective.

I'd give a suspension for the Roussel hit before this one. At least there you could make an argument that Brown targetted the head (though Roussel tried to sell that hard too). Here, Brown just braces for the hit and never even looks at the guy. If it was someone a little taller than Pominville hitting brown, it wouldn't even be an issue.

Agreed.

This is why I rarely post outside of the Kings forum now. It used to be ok when we were the lowly Kings, people took pity on us. Now that we are the champs, we get spit on for saying hello on the main board. It's the only bad thing about HF, to many homers, haters and punk kids with an agenda.

Like I said elsewhere, Russo is insufferable when it comes to the Kings, and I have no clue why because he's a treat to read the rest of the time. Part of it is likely homer glasses, but if you go read any of his tweets from games vs. LA, he loses his mind.

I wouldn't be shocked if Brownie got a game or two, but it would be annoying when Richards can get clobbered in the head and Malkin can elbow Simmonds and they don't even get blinked at:

I still don't think Brown had any intention of that and I bet he was shocked as anyone to find Pominville's head down near the shelf on the boards but it was still possible to consider that reckless.

Minus that hit, though, I think Brown is turning back into that bull-in-a-china shop mode

Except that wasn't an elbow to the head to Roussel...

People are really stupid sometimes (e.g., the people who run the NHL who think that was actually an elbow to Roussel's head).

This x1000

i almost hate going to the main board for this very reason, as soon as Brown hit JP (or JP's face tried to check Brown, wtf was what!?) i knew tons of threads on the main board would appear and it would be a bashfest lead by upset minny fans and fueled by Duck and Canuck fans.

Anyways, i see Brown with a fine at most for being reckless. he may get a game but really as its been pointed out, he never even looked back at JP.

Shut up Russo. Brown does this time and time again? All I see here is a teams beat writer crying and whining.
