He's looked a good fit with this team. It's pretty obvious his conditioning isn't all there but he's looking good. Tons of good handles and keeps. Protects the puck well with good habits there.
Conditioning definitely isn't there, and the execution and timing is a bit off (which makes sense for a guy in his second game in almost a year), but yeah. He's gonna tear it up with Misa and Parekh. He looks huge compared to all these Canadian teenagers.

I've tried to keep my expectations for Chernyshov pretty well in check since he was drafted and injured and needed surgery, but to see him come back making plays like this...yeah, goodbye to all that--I'm in.
Really depressing start for him /s

Should have kept him on the cuda
He's building chemistry with his future center

Isn't that how we got Lebanc? I thought he had an injury in his draft year and fell.
I have no idea if he was injured, but Labanc scored 35 points in 65 games as a 5'10" winger with a December birthday in his draft year in the OHL following an extremely underwhelming two years with the NTDP. He got drafted in the 6th round because that's where guys with his profile get drafted. He didn't explode until his D+1 OHL season.

6th round is definitely different than top of the 2nd round! But as Jux says, lots of different aspects that show the difference between the two as prospects. Important to remember that Labanc, for all the frustrations he caused, was a major success story for such a pick, whereas with Chernyshov, it's not unreasonable to project him as a proper top six winger. He certainly has the tools to make it in that role. Now we just have to see if he and the Sharks can make that a reality.

@Juxtaposer how is Chernyshov off the puck? Or is it too early to tell because the conditioning isn’t there?
Too early to tell how effective he is, but he clearly does have an interest in D. Like I said earlier, the effort is there, he tries to get his stick in lanes, and he can use his size and strength to win battles well.

Compare that to Musty, who you can just see is going through the motions in the defensive zone, and the difference is obvious.

He sounds a little Timo Meier adjacent, is that the right comp?

I haven't been paying attention to him this season yet, but I dove on him last season - I don't think Timo is the comp, personally. He's more of a two-way player and maybe less of an offensive upside threat -- Timo is more like what Musty could turn into in the best case scenario imho.

I think Cherny is not dissimilar from MBN from last year, maybe slightly less physical but maybe slightly more offensive upside and a bit bigger frame. I was super high on him and thought he'd be a steal even in the high teens so I was super stoked when he fell to 33.

Thank god for that sunburn

Timo was faster, smaller, and had a better shot. I also doubt Chernyshov achieves the play-driving and defensive impact Meier did in his prime.

Not to get everyone overhyped and drooling from the mouth, but I almost want to say semi-prime Ryane Clowe without the mean streak is a better comp. Physical playmaking power winger with slightly heavy feet. What I'm most interesting in seeing in Chernyshov's development this year is for him to really impose his will physically on OHLers. He's got the body for it, he just needs the confidence, which I suspect he'll gain with more experience.

That’s a fun comp. Nice to have the real Ryane Clowe here to give tips too.
