Agreed. What they don't need is more scoring wingers. Centers will always have value.

There are barely any centers in this draft. You gotta expect a W or a D, and the wingers are much better in this draft.

There's a chance Lundell, Mercer (plays some C) or Jarvis (plays some C) will be available at 15. Barring that Lukas Reichel W/C will almost certainly be there.

I'd be surprised if any of them was a C at the NHL level other than Lundell. Id say Zary, Bourque, Lapierre, or Marat are the only guys I think will potentially continue as C for 1st round picks.

A small chance they get a shot at Lundell, and the others are not top 15 guys to me. What I would really like is for Lapierre to have a 5 point game today and the Habs to get buck fever and trade the Leafs a 3rd to swap 16 for 15. I don't know how i feel about Mercer as his production dipped after the trade. Maybe he gets 5 points today as well and goes ahead of Lundell :)

Haha maybe. I wouldn't mind a guy like Lundell or Jarvis dropping to us.

I like Mercer, I think people dont like him because he's above average at basically everything and elite at nothing and its boring as hell. Safe bet as a top-6 forward, but not swinging for the fence at all.

Amirov is my pick at #15.

Best combination of upside and two way ability left on the board imo.

Looks like someone that can still put on some weight.

Would most likely get heavily criticized by some if drafted because he's not a big name and russian.

Initially I wasn't big on Mercer as he's not a typical top line player but after watching clips of him his game has really grown on me. He's supremely versatile and more skilled than he's given credit for. His shot and playmaking are both excellent and his hockey IQ is very high. For me he projects as a first line winger or second line center in the NHL which at 15 is a solid pick. In the international tournaments he was placed in a defensive role which he excelled in but wasn't offered much in the way of linemates.

I think Mercer would be really good beside Matthews tbh

This is the most uncertain i've been about a pick in a long time. Legitimately have no clue what direction management will go.

If I had to guess, based on Dubas' draft tendencies, i'm expecting him to trade down. If he stands pat, I have a strong feeling he will select Lapierre. The lack of exposure due to limited GP, his injury history scaring away other risk adverse GMs (assuming his medicals clear), and the fact that he's been pegged as having some of the highest potential in the draft all suggest to me that Dubas will view his weaknesses more as market inefficiencies than legitimate red flags.

My top preferences would be any of Reichel, Guhle, Amirov, Jarvis. My secondary preferences would be Wallinder, Barron, Perreault, Holloway (trade down scenario). Uncertain about Mercer's upside, but I could see him fitting this team's top 6 like a glove, so i'd defer to management on that one.

Tldr; hoping for a trade down.

Loving the spicy takes regardless of if I agree. It's all about preference and I see you love some Lundell/Askarov and are softer on Rossi/Bourque.

My only real question is what you see in Mysak to have him in the top-20? Even Simontaival in the top-30 is interesting.

I totally love Lundell/Askarov, had both within my top 3 at different times. I really can't settle on my list so it keeps changing, even to date. I just have a rough outline.

I believe Mysaks a super projectable top 6 player, with a high floor albeit likely not star potential. He's largely caught my eye watching him. I also don't rank players I'm not comfortable on/feel like I don't know enough about so my list is a little shakier. I feel like Mysak can either compliment or drive a line well.

I see Simontaival as Kotkainiemi-like, at 30, that's pretty good value. Especially since I think that while he may be very boom or bust, he could genuinely be a ppg player if he clicks, though I know he's also highly likely to bust outright.

Edit: I'm definitely low on Rossi

I'm starting to wonder whether Zary might be their guy. In the past couple of years, the Leafs seem to see values in 6 feet or under players with high skill sets / hockey IQ with suspect skating. They can discern whether the skating is good enough for improvement under their development system. Both Sandin and Robertson fall into this category. Zary has been compared to Horvat in his complete game and leadership demeanor. Horvat also had skating issue when he first came into the league. Maybe the Leafs will try to trade down to draft Zary.
