Medical exams tomorrow. It's always interesting to hear where players heights and weights are right before the draft.
Curious about the US boys. Maybe my eyes are going but they all look a bit smaller than listed. How was Cooley's combine weight different from his listed numbers I wonder

NHL combine coverage is usually pretty awful compared to the NBA and NFL for what players and teams are talking and such. Usually not until later on in the week is anything really reported on or talked about. Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith aren’t even there right now.

A big reason for that is due to the NHL holding it during their premiere event, The Stanley Cup Finals, which is really stupid. NBA/NFL use it as a key off-season event leading up to the draft.

There's way more draft talk & excitement etc too. But, those players are expected to be ON the team right away whereas NHL draftees are not except for a few players. 80% of players won't even make it to AHL level nevermind NHL. Tougher sell.

SCF has 2 days off now, and combine interviews will kick off today & go through til tomorrow. Then SCF game/medicals Thursday, another 2 days off from SCF for the testing & more interviews.

They've at least tried to squish in the combine with only one SCF game over the next 5 days. They should really push this event back 2 weeks to after SCF. Then push the draft back 2 weeks, and UFA.

Probably makes for too short of an off-season for the management teams though.

The NTDP kids are always listed pretty accordingly.

Cooley was listed 5’11 175 lbs on his NTDP profil. 5’10.5 180 lbs at the combine.

For another example Caufield was listed 5’7 162 lbs and at the combine 5’7.2 163 lbs.

Mckenzie listed Smith at 5’11 3/4 180 lbs and Leonard 5’11 1/2 190 lbs. Should be pretty much accurate.

I also think just the differences in what actually happens at the combines in the different sports is huge. The NHL seems like the least important in terms of player positioning, with the meetings being 100% the most important. With the NBA, teams get to work players and see how they shoot, pass, dribble, everything. And even more in the NFL with activities and exercises for all different positions.

It would be nice to see more coverage of the interviews but I guess it is still early

It’s weird, normally there’s a lot more chatter about the combine. I’ve yet to see any real report out there. I know it just started, but you always hear some stories or tidbits.

Right it’s radio silence.
There was a lot more noise last year even before it started, it's like the media didn't bother going this year...

Indeed, teams can take one kid to diner per day and last year we had the Habs schedule for the first 3 days before the combine even started. This combine officially started yesterday and nothing...

Has it ever been confirmed if the Habs are still doing their own combine or did COVID kill that?
They did it last year, it's usually not mediatized much thought, it's a private combine.

Maybe because they were first overall last year met Wright, Cooley, Slaf and now there would be too many prospect meetings to keep up with?
