Leafs and Marner repryedly close to a $128million 8 year deal =$16 million per..

So much forvthe nobody gets more than Mathews Crap.
 
16M cap hit would have him taking up 17%, 15%, and 14% of Toronto's cap with recent expected increases. Good luck with that.

I'd consider him up until 14M, but given Marner and his agent have projections of the cap, I'm not sure you'll be able to get him under a 15M hit now.
 
if rantanen wants a number like that on the open market i'm even less interested in big game hunting. have to see if it's the legit number first though. seems like it hasn't been reckoned with enough that players are looking at the same cap projections as us and will be raising their asks appropriately.

This is nothing more than a prediction from Steve Dangle.

It would be funny to see the Laffs continue down the path they're on, too much money tied up in too few players.

The Hawks need to spend to hit the cap floor. That can be done by several $4 million contracts that take up several forward spots or one big spend for a seemingly open spot on the top line for a team in need of high end talent. Which makes more sense for this team at this moment?

The age has to fit the timeline as well. I would prefer some eliteness for sure. And comparing orgs, it is apples to oranges. But still, a level of caution when signing big ticket players.

Several 4mil players on short term deals makes more sense.

I'd rather they spend money on good players, or at least guys like TT and Bert.

I'm kind of sick of seeing guys get way overpaid for no good reason. Brodie, Martinez, and even Dickinson and Foligno to an extent. You're going to create a culture problem eventually if you keep handing out deals like that.

Aren't you also always saying to play the younger players?! How does that work when adding several players exactly like Taylor Hall whom everyone was happy to let go?! Madness with some of the logic going on here.

Yeah, the "short term deals" part of that post is puzzling to say the least. Even if you have to overpay vets to hit the cap floor, then it has to be via 1 year deals. Anything else should be a fireable offense for KD if he signs more Brodie like contracts.

You can still play the younger guys after adding several good players.

Bertuzzi - Bedard- UFA
Teravainen - Nazar - UFA
Slaggert - UFA - Dach
Foligno - Dickenson - Mikheyev

You can add 3 good UFAs to this group, and still play the kids in top 9 roles.

LOL to thinking that reasonably priced, top line UFA's exist, let alone assuming they would choose to sign here rather than chase a Cup. Lolololz.
