I imagine they differ some of that money to make his cap hit lower, if thats the total he's getting.

16M cap hit would have him taking up 17%, 15%, and 14% of Toronto's cap with recent expected increases. Good luck with that.

I'd consider him up until 14M, but given Marner and his agent have projections of the cap, I'm not sure you'll be able to get him under a 15M hit now.

if rantanen wants a number like that on the open market i'm even less interested in big game hunting. have to see if it's the legit number first though. seems like it hasn't been reckoned with enough that players are looking at the same cap projections as us and will be raising their asks appropriately.

Things change fast in this league. They cleaned our clocks in 2017 and were the new up and coming team. Now they are bottom feeders after making a big splash in free agency just a few years later.
