Yup, people pointed to Rangers as an example of "rushing" a rebuild and it being a success. Doesn't look like it worked too well.
its a miracle Laf even turned into a good player.

Rebuilding and making the playoffs sure is easy if you have a norris level Dman force his way to play for you. Its even easier if the previous man in charge drafted an elite goalie who can mask any and all flaws in a mediocre forward group

Yea KD shouldve been in on this. I can easily see Kakko becoming a 50-60+ point 2 way winger with the right coaching and opportunities.

I mean they lost two Conf Finals and were generally among best teams in league the past few years

And they really didn't rush rebuild. The young guys they pegged as future mostly haven't worked out as hoped

I would’ve traded one of our vet forwards plus a mid round pick for Kakko in a heartbeat. I hope we pry someone from the Sabres soon

They got extremely lucky in their rebuild. Winning two consecutive draft lotteries. Panarin being available when they had cap space. Fox only wanting to play for New York.

I’d like to think this is a balancing of sorts.

It balances out with Laf and Kakko being completely underwhelming

Which is why you don't rush it. You don't know what your young players are going to do. Chicago doesn't have the Fox, Shesterkin, Zibanejad, Kreiders, already there to even attempt it. See what you have with your draft picks before splurging in UFA.

Idk man hockey is so volatile. The rangers won a presidents trophy and made a couple conference finals. They easily couldve been a couple good bounces away from a cup final and frankly if Panarin was more of a playoff type player they probably would have.

Panarin and Zibanejad are poor playoff performers relative to their cap hits, Trouba is just an $8m waste of space.

The Rangers made mistakes with those guys but it’s hard to blame them for going for it after drafting 2nd and 1st OVR.
