But NHL is about to get a billion or so dollars from Utah.

33-team league incoming.

I think another Atlatna team with new stadium in works in suburbs is going to be #34

Wonder who #35 and #36 will be. Houston would be great but the Rockets owner hasn't shown desire at this point and since he owns arena its his show

I really hope the league has learned from two previous failures, that Atlanta isn't an NHL city..

I always thought it was right after there was some small situation announced as progress with the case last March, when Katchouk began playing well. It felt like maybe he knew he was cleared in the situation

Atlanta has been getting its tires pumped for a while now, but if I'm honest I can't help but think that the arena developers are using the lure of an NHL team to get support for their project moreso than actually being interested in a team.

Call me a skeptic.

Atlanta is the seventh biggest TV market and Houston is the sixth. It'll be one or the other.

I get that, and I'm sure that the NHL wants in/back in to Houston/Atlanta for that very reason, but the expansion asking price makes me really doubt that there's a meaningfully interested buyer there.

That's why when an American billionaire is legitimately interested, the NHL will absolutely let them in. Those chances don't come around too often.

Any massive city in the US can support a team. Houston and Atlanta are massive markets. If its a good arena and has a good location then I imagine it will work.

If you go to a big market and treat the team like shit and have a shitty arena and in a shitty location and a shitty team, don't be surprised if the team folds.

Oh I'm talking about team 34. The NHL isn't turning down a billion dollar check.

I'm not clamoring for those cities to get teams, especially Hamilton. Personally, I don't think they should expand at all, too many teams as it is.
Billionaires don't become billionaires by not taking more money. The Sharks and Blackhawks rosters are proof enough the talent is a bit thin with thirty two teams.

I agree with you they shouldn't. But they're definitely going too.

I’m a bit of a romantic for Quebec City. I remember watching games on TV and when Invisited truly loved the city. Not sure if the economics can support it with the size of the city. Heck, Peg has trouble filling the smallest rink in the league with a really good team. But I loved the Nordiques jerseys.

Sounds like (from Athletic article) that AZ probably won’t have a location in January. Which the league said end of January was the drop dead date for that. So probably have to relocate to Utah I suspect.

I guess this clears Katchouk then, eh? I know some were concerned about his none comments a year or 2 ago.
Well, for now.

8 players were involved.

Only 5 are actually being criminally charged right now. That could change. Or it doesn't.

Eh, the Yotes have been on the verge of allegedly relocating a few dozen times over the past fifteen years.

I'll believe that their saga in the desert is ending, for better or worse, once it actually happens, and not a moment sooner.
