Location is just an excuse. Folks from St. Pete and Clearwater haven't been showing up en masse to Rays games for a while now, and Glendale folks haven't been showing up to Yotes games either.

At a certain point, a dozen miles here or there is only an excuse for so long. At least the Yotes have the habitually bad angle to explain away their woes, but I'm well past the point of caring about where they play. Put a new stadium in Tampa, and I'm sure that the new excuse will be that folks from west of the bay having a hard time getting to games now.

That being said, I still remember Reinsdorf's crocodile tears for public funds for a new Comiskey and saying they might have no choice but to move to the supposedly more profitable stadium in St. Pete. So much for that grass is greener threat, I guess.

I have a 20 min walk to Tropicana. Been to one game. I'm not a baseball fan to begin with, but I didn't enjoy the stadium and wouldn't be too excited to go back.

Would be interesting to see Bears attendance numbers if they moved to Arlington
They'll sell out every game. Something like 60-70% of season ticket holders are in the north & northwest suburbs.

Football is a different animal, teams can play off the beaten path and still draw since there's so few games and nearly all are on the weekend.

In AZ, Glendale is something like a 45mn -hour drive depending on from Tempe and a little farther from Scottsdale. That is where a vast majority of people with the money would go to games. I only have been to Glendale twice and that was for Pearl Jam and Tool concerts. I would not drive there just to happenstance catch an Yotes game. It is way out there in the boonies and has definitely hurt them.

Mike Rupp called out Matthews for not fighting last night. Pretty crazy

I don’t think he called him out for not fighting. He called him out for just standing like a statue when his teammates stuck up for him during a scrum. Then he decides to stir the pot some more and let his teammates jump in again. Did you even watch the video?

True. Yes I watched the video. He called him out for instigated and then letting his teammates do the dirty work while he laughs and stands to the side.

I wonder how much of the lockerroom stuff is true. Do players get pissed about that sort of thing?

I don't think Rupp goes at Matthews if its not something that other players would get pissed off about.

Oh goodie, another reason to hate Boston sports teams.

And before anyone says that this puke was only a kid, please tell me when it stops being excusable for someone to horrifically bully and be a racist towards a disabled classmate. Because if you think 14 year olds can't understand why that's abhorrent, then feel free to die on that hill.

That has been going on forever. Superstars are protected by their teammates. Mathews would eat Konecny for lunch but the team does not want him fighting.. When Konecny persisted and got too close Mathews gave him a shot to remind him.

I could rattle off five things I did back in middle school that aren't exactly this stuff, but still would have people clutch their pearls and think I'm a terrible human being. Does that mean I shouldn't have any chance the rest of my existence to be better and prove that I'm a little better now than those instances of juvenile stupidity? Should I instantly lose my job and only be eligible to scrub toilets? I don't think I'm the same person I was when I was in college, let alone middle school.

This was SEVEN YEARS of torture, racism, bullying, and despicable behavior towards a disabled black kid.

This goes well beyond juvenile stupidity. It's borderline sociopathic.

There are plenty of jobs that you remove yourself from eligibility based upon past behavior. Embezzle money? You probably won't even work in anything finance-related ever again. Commit crimes? Probably won't ever be a cop or a lawyer. I could go on and on.

Nothing says his future is only scrubbing toilets, that's just a tad bit hyperbolic... But based upon his actions, how do you thrust someone like that into a potential role model situation as many athletes are?

The shit this kid did was disgusting. Actions have consequences. We're taught that our whole lives. Why is it any different for this person because he's good at hockey?

Did you ever racially and physically torment a handicapped classmate for years? Because yeah, that kind of shit should stick to people.

This isn't a boys will be boys kind of juvenile or anger management issue that was a one-off thing. This was horrific and longstanding racist and abusive behavior.

Sorry, even kids know that type of garbage is horribly wrong.

And oh no, a real piece of shit like Mitchell might not have access to a sports entertainment career where he'd get paid hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars a year to entertain people due to doing things abhorrent enough to make fans pissed off. Them's the breaks.

Your first sentence indicates you didn't even get to the end of my first sentence. Carry on.

No, I read it. But literally nobody is saying that kids should be judged years later for nickle and dime stuff they did as kids.

That doesn't remotely apply here.

Not to mention no one is suggesting that this guy should be incarcerated or barred from getting a job or anything.

Being an NHLer isn't a right, and fans have every expectation to be mad at organizations that hire jackasses.
