lol, it would be funny just to see all the statuegate reactions...
Plus it would kind of troll this whole draft thing lol. I doubt the OP would allow that though. He’s thought this through and won’t have any shenanigans. Big ass list of rules lol.

EDIT - I see the Canes fans already tried this with Chad LaRose. Hysterical.

Hull

(Gretz not #1 is stupid...and speaking of which Lindros)
I would have had Bobby Orr as my #1 overall. The man changed the game and was the best ever at what many defensemen today can only imagine.

Also, way too much on the red tint for Red Wing fans and the Yzerman pick. Yzerman is a great player, but he isn't in the Top 10 of all-time best NHL players. There are several guys further down the list that are better players, like Hull, Beliveau, and Borque (and those three are just off the top of my head).

I would have taken Beliveau in the top 5 ahead of Lidstrom, but it's close.

Not sure why he hasn't been selected yet, but he is in my personal Top 10:

BOBBY HULL

Eric Lindros, WTH? Chicago fans must have had their brains fried by the heat and humidity.
Prime Lindros was insanely good. He made Renberg and LeClair look top draw which they most certainly were not. That Flyers team was not good after they were gutted to acquire him. He was a one man show at times. He scored 85 goals in his first 126 games in a low scoring era.

Injuries and the poor sides around him mean that he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He was a monster at his best which is the basis of the pick as we are assuming all are in their prime.

I agree btw. I wouldn’t vote for Brown as the OP is putting a huge amount of work in... otherwise it’d be a great wind up.

Lindros over Hasek, Yzerman, Jagr. I like Lindros but no way I'd take him over the next three.

Lets just pick Brown to troll the Main Boards. I go Brown.

Edit: Alright guess we can't do Brown so I'll go with Dionne.

(apologies, i set the thread to watched, but it didn't give me the notification that more people had posted)

Voting:
I'll update this comment as each new vote comes in, but I can only count it if it's a single player vote (so not "Shore or Harvey" for example). If you're changing your vote later on, that's fine, just make a note of it. I apologize in advance if I am delayed in adding your vote, I am now working full-time so have much less free time on my hands
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marcel Dionne (1) - Statto
Bobby Hull (2) - KINGS17, Schrute farms beets
Dustin Brown (1) - Sparky206
Doug Harvey (1) - Jericho111091
Chris Pronger (1) - johnjm22
Guy Lafleur (1) - Kingfan1967
Vladislav Tretiak (1) - Docgonzo
I vote Prime Mike Richards

It's hard to judge players from different generations, and I think we're always going to have a recency bias.

But IMO, Pronger is one of the most singularly impactful players I've ever seen post 2000. Especially in his later years.

Every team he went to post STL went to the cup finals.

He had 121pts in 173 PO games (the exact same PPG as Lidstrom), much of it during the low scoring era of hockey and was still and absolute stalwart defensively. Plus he could provide physicality and even be a pest at times.

I'm going for the guy who averaged a 2.14GAA and .914 sv% for 14 years while playing over 70 games a year in 12 of those years (would have been 13 if not for an injury) along with 4 Vezina's (with 9 Top 5 finishes). Martin Brodeur.

Much of his success was due to the fact that he played for the Devils.

You can make that argument about any goalie except maybe Hasek. Maybe. In his age 37 season he had a .916 sv% and 9 shutouts with one line and his best defensemen being Andy Greene and Mike Mottau.

The "he's a system goalie" falls apart when you look at the entirety of his career.

Lindros spent much of career in the low-scoring era, but his rookie year was the season with the most goals in one year in NHL history I believe. 92-93 was the same year Selanne and Mogilny scored 76 each and between 92-93 and 93-94, Lindros was 16th in total goals. Seven guys had over 100 goals in that span -including Luc Robitaille- and Lemieux scored 86 in 82 games. The early-mid 90's weren't low scoring.

Brodeaur played much of his career in the low scoring era as well.

He's obviously good, but his stats benefited greatly from his situation. Probably more so than any other goalie in the modern era.
