No issue with messier talking about bedard’s defense there, but it’s funny listening to a guy like messier talk about deserved ice time and what he did to the locker room morale in Vancouver as a supposed leader of men.

8 brings grit and board play. 95 brings speed, opens up ice and is good defensively. 59 brings .... hmmm... let me see. Oh yeah, when he manages to get there, he is good at standing at the side of the crease waiting for 98 to shoot it off his skate.

It's hilarious that you think Mik is a better option than Bertuzzi, for Bedard, still. He's a black hole offensively, there is nothing about his game that would fit well with Bedard.

Did you watch last night's game? It was a perfect example. The line was chasing all night long. Bedard's precious few opportunities came mainly from himself or Nazar or during changes when Donato was out there. Bert was nowhere in sight on either side of the puck. You make it sound like Bertuzzi has offense in his game. Put him in Mik's spot, or Donatos, or anywhere in the bottom 6 and see how much offense he generates.

Bedard's line is going to struggle with possession until HE improves in that aspect. This team doesn't have the wingers that are going to get him the puck very often. Putting bottom 6 players on his line isn't going to lead to more offense.

I don’t like Bertuzzi or 95 as Bedard’s linemate, but between the two I’d rather see him with Bertuzzi. At least he can provide something completely different skill set wise, agitate, and get in front of the goalie.

95 just brings speed and basically nothing else. Not really needed when Nazar is also on this line with his speed.

I hear ya but the 98/91 combo is weak defensively and (if the coach insists on playing them together) badly needs a gritty guy to be responsible defensively, can keep up to the play and who can win board battles. The 1st line is going to often go against the ops best line. I don't think the 98/91/59 is sustainable at the moment.

Who gives a shit what Messier thinks? Having natural athletic gifts doesn't mean every opinion you have is correct. If he's such a brilliant hockey mind, why isn't he coaching? Why was Gretzky such a mediocre coach, despite being the best player in league history? It's because being a legendary hockey player doesn't necessarily translate to being a coach.

Messier isn't in that locker room. He doesn't see Bedard in practice. Hell, I'm pretty certain every poster here has watched more of Bedard than he has; I don't imagine Mark Messier is going out of his way to watch every single Hawks game.

He's allowed to offer his opinion. That's why he's being paid to be a talking head for ESPN. But let's not pretend he has all the answers on how to handle Bedard.

Bedards line, regardless of who has been on it the entire season, has been mostly chasing. lol

there's only two forwards that see more on ice scoring per 60 minutes with bedard at 5v5 than bertuzzi, those being nazar and dickinson. mikheyev is seventh.

That entire line to your point is bad defensively but with two kids and a slower Bert what would one expect
