I kind of wanted to see Matthews in the shooting accuracy comp again. Kind of seems strange omitting him from that and having Boyle taking part.
Especially considering he was only bested by Crosby last year. Maybe they wanted Boyle to participate in one of these and he chose this over the puck relay?

Multiple sources say that multiple players pulled out of fastest skater because of mcdavid
Seriously? What a bunch of cowards, should drive you to skate harder since everyone already pegs McDavid as the winner. I'm glad Eichel opted to go for it, he may not win but at least hes man enough to try.

No Weber. No Chara.

so the new rules for the fastest skater are that one skater at a time will go, not two like always thus only the stopwatch will decide

Fastest skater should be fun, MacKinnon vs McDavid.

The new rules for the accuracy shooting can either make the event long and painful or more entertaining.

I really wish they still had the Breakaway Challenge, but understand why it's gone. The players ruined it.

McDavid absolutely smoked MacKinnon head to head in the fastest skater last year.

And they get a 3 stride build up too. Clock starts when they cross the line.

I honestly don't remember but maybe he could have been in hardest shot? The solution to that problem entirely though is not having to take one guy from each team in the first place. THAT, more than anything else diminished the allstar game. It's no longer a notch on the belt. Fan voting doesn't help either.

I'm so confused about these selections for the different events... The passing accuracy one, especially. It's going to be epic watching most of those guys suck.

Shooting accuracy too... A real head scratcher. How did they determine who participated in these events? Kane should be in passing as well as puck control. And might have won both.

Some guys don't get to participate in any events? lol

dont the 4 captains choose?

That used to be the case last year, when the skills comp was more of a competition. But it looks like this is a totally individual event this year. From a cursory look, many of the events are lopsided in terms of divisional representation:

Fastest skater: ATL-2, MET-3, CEN-1, PAC-2
Passing: ATL-1, MET-2, CEN-3, PAC-2
Save Streak: ATL-0(!), MET-1, CEN-3, PAC-1, Central division shoots twice. No love for local goalie?
Puck Control: ATL-3, MET-1, CEN-2, PAC-2
Hardest Shot: ATL-1, MET-1, CEN-2, PAC-1
Accuracy: ATL-2, MET-2, CEN-1, PAC-3

I could be off, as I did these myself. But it seems like since every division has 9 skaters, every skater does exactly one of the non-goalie activities. It seems like they're trying to match players up with their strengths across the entire 4 NHL divisions, as opposed to having team captains pick within each division and trying to shoehorn people into a competition where they might not do so well.
