NHL 25 Discussion

Do you have to wait until next season to receive all the battlepass rewards? I completed it, but it's only giving me the cosmetics and I need the pucks so I can get the Ginder pre-build loadout instead of having to pay for it out of pocket.

Can anyone help with this?

picked this up for $20 after hating 24 and giving up on it after 12 hours.
- able to remove the pressure meter from the ice
- no cringy celebration cutscene after every goal offline
- passing feels more fluid and snappy
- menus are faster
- franchise menu layout is a huge improvment
- all of the franchise additions are good
- mighty ducks logo for create a team is a silly but big for me because I have always wanted to run a eggplant and jade mighty ducks franchise mode

there is still obviously stuff I would like to see in franchise mode (edit names of cpu prospects, cpu players with no picture should have auto generated faces, a time machine like NBA Eras, i want override options for everything basically I would like sandbox god mode like NBA 2K lets you)

feels like they could be back on the right track hopefully.

They need to focus on offline play and against the cpu more. It’s just not enjoyable. I seriously have rarely played the CPU much since this series started with online play on console 20 years ago. Online with the right player or playing with a buddy can still be fun.

I played HUT this year after taking a break from it for a few years due the community being extremely toxic. I usually stop playing around this time as the cards start getting ridiculous, though it’s still fun to build cards and your team. This is also probably one of the first times I’ve been able to build a decent team without buying packs.

I only play franchise (i play every game of them) and this year the cpu feels really good to me... until you get to goalies. Can't stop a beach ball this year, let in every other shot. Find the cpu plays decent defense and positional this year compared to last but yeah, the goalies are ruining this for me.

Well, that and I have an issue where the game freezes my whole xbox solid randomly when I'm playing a game

I assume you have adjusted the sliders?

Anybody else having an issue where icon passing randomly disappears when playing World of Chel? I remember they temporarily removed it because it was broken, but then it was added back when they fixed it but now seems like its gone again?
Yup, been going on for months. But even when the icons aren't showing on screen, the icon passing still works.

Having a super weird situation with this game the last few days where I can't pass in any game mode, my L2 button doesn't work unless I'm on defense. I tried a few controllers to make sure that wasn't the issue. Anybody else experiencing this since the last update?

Well, we finally won the WJC with Latvia of all teams. After getting rocked in our opening games by Canada and Sweden, we needed to take points from Finland and Germany just to scrape by into the playoff round. Germany was up 3-1 for the final group game in the third period so things were looking bleak. We stormed back to win in OT and never looked back in the knockout rounds, beating Sweden 8-5, Finland 5-4, and Canada 5-4 to win gold.

Also in these highlights is the worst penalty shot in history by Macklin Celebrini. EA CPU AI strikes again.

WJC is the most fun mode in the game imo for couch co-op.

Franchise and BAP.

BAP is the same I hear

Franchise has added NMC and NTC clauses, season goals for players, player and coach conversations for things like contracts and line fit, new UI, awards tracking

It's not like a complete revamp by any means but the most attention it has gotten in a number of years

Everyone is free to spend their time how they want of course but I wanted to share that I didn’t purchase the game this year after having played HUT the 3 years prior. The decision feels great.

Sheepishly I’ll admit it became an addiction and something I was committed to around 20+ hours a week. It wasn’t even fun, it was a job, and the game experience from top to bottom isn’t designed to be healthy. I’ve dropped it and don’t miss it at all. I play about 5 hours a week of The Witcher 3 now and have been much happier and productive. I watch more actual hockey now too which is great as well.

If any of you are on the fence about quitting altogether, I can’t recommend it enough.
To be fair, it IS built so that you will work hours to feel like you are achieving something. You are more likely to spend to avoid the grinding, and you will play way more than you feel like to get that one reward you want.

All games are built to give you that piece of dopamine that an achievement can give you. NHL is more obvious because the game never changes and you end up asking yourself "ok.. am i really going to play X games just to get this one card within X timeframe?!" and realizing you aren't having fun.

A game like Witcher, though, has enough content to keep you glued to your seat 20 hours a week; its just the ways to get that feeling of achievement are more varied. I have a friend with an addiction to gambling that has made me have a 2nd look at games, including video games and their triggers - changing the game doesn't change the behaviour.

Not sure if any of this applies and its not my business either way, but putting this here in case it helps anyone.

I enjoy building the team and playing the markets probably more than playing the game, with the exception of hanging out with friends and playing with a few brews handy.

I dont play online because of that toxicity. That hate hitting my inbox whether i win or lose - i just want to sit back and relax.

I dont find the cards get ridiculous aside from those events where the cards are extra special (like team of the year or team of the season , where the cards you get update themselves to match that players' best OVR card available). I am different though - i actually calculate how much a player is going to cost me in terms of coins - there are events that i skip just because i can get other cards at the same OVR for less. Like.. is the 90 player worth 5 88 players including 3 from that event? (each of those three require 5 85s or a bunch of collectibles)

Also, no one seems to want female players, but the cards are just as good as their male equivalents. I think size makes a difference to some extent (example, in nets) but the game is more about cycling the puck now than ever. Also, a player like Sarah Nurse is taller than Cole Caufield but costs 10-20 k less, depending on teh card.
