Faceoffs have little to do with player ratings, you just have to be good at timing them

Not true imo. You need a high FO rating (I usually run 87 + 5, but I know some people that run 87 + 8) AND good timing.

Haven't looked through past posts/threads, too much to go through, but maybe people can give me a summary of opinions on the game?

I just bought it this week, not impressed.

Before you all say I suck, (insert brag here) I was ranked 8th overall in the world in online VS in NHL 11 at one point and was top 100 in NHL 12.... so I think I know what I'm doing in the game.

Anyways... the new skating style? What's the deal? I appreciate the fact that you can't max out one direction and instantly blaze back the other way, but this new engine is also completely unrealistic. It doesn't take Pietrelangelo 4 seconds to turn around once a defender blows by him at the blue line in real life, so how do they get away with putting those physics into the game? (Note: it could be any defenseman... just an example, heck even Aaron Rome could do better than what the game offers.) Rebounds are nearly impossible in front of the net because the player has to adjust their position first... I understand the role it's supposed to play (the updated physics) I just don't think it's well executed. Some of the stick handling is a bit ridiculous as well, it's a struggle to pull off any moves in front of the net (partly because of my next point) except at excruciatingly slow speeds. These guys are supposedly the worlds best, they can do these moves, we've all seen it, yet we seem to have control of pee-wee level players.

I was also someone who feasted on the poke check as a defensive style in past years, yet even I know this years is completely unrealistic. EVERY play is broken up by a poke check, you don't even have to be near the player/puck to have it work for you. It's maddening, and I'm still the one who gets the better end of it in NHL 13... can't imagine what it feels like for those who are abused by it even more than me.

What's with all the interference? You can roam around free checking a guy 6-8 feet wide of the puck or before he gets to the puck in the game... just don't understand this either.

Faceoff win with a player whose shooting stance is open to the net is almost a gimmy every time as well...biggest cheese goal I've found so far.

Anyways, I'm picking up the handle of it, 9-2-0 (one loss a disconnect) so it's not like it preventing my performance, just really not enjoying it as much as I had hoped.

What are other peoples thoughts on these things? Agree? Am I out to lunch? Are these changes the best things to happen to the game? I don't play any other modes than online really, so all other enhancements don't excite me that much.

For the love of God, when will the Be a GM AHL/NHL roster bug be fixed?? It makes the mode unplayable.

Is there a way to transfer boost slots onto a different Xbox. I'm at a friends and wanted to play club but I don't know how to get the boosts unlocked here?

Went back and listened to some NHL 09 soundtrack. My goodness that soundtrack was absolutely amazing. The gameplay was brilliant too. By far my favourite NHL game ever.

Hi

Just want to know if we can edit the ''fighting frequency'' of a player ? Asham and Haley are rarely and I would like to change it for sometimes or often. I was able to do it in NHL 12 but it looks locked in 13.

It's no longer an option to change the frequency.

However, I think there is a stat called "fighting" that you can change - the higher the stat, the more likely he gets into a fight?

I found after just adjusting the checking sliders so the cpu was higher then the user's it changed the whole gameplay for me. It wasn't even fun before and now its very similar to nhl 12. Sometimes the players do stuff that makes me shake my head but otherwise still enjoyable for the lack of hockey to watch.

Still it isn't a 'great' game by any means, more of an addon or dlc/update for nhl 12.

Anyone know why my +5 Speed boost hasn't unlocked? It says you have to achieve a +/- of at least 100 in 150 EASHL Club games.

I currently have a +/- of 103 in 148 (125 club games) games. Do I need to play the 150 first before it unlocks?

The boost does say Club matches but could it mean overall in your performance tracker? Because there I have a +/- of 97.

You need to play 150 club games (not drop-in) and have a +/- of over 100 (again, in club only so not counting drop-in +/-). So 25 more club games in your case.

I don't see why people have a problem with others complaining about the excessive poke-checking. Even with the sliders all the way down, it's absolutely true. Poke-checking is absurdly effective and it has completely changed the game for me.

I'm an oustanding forechecker and great at body positioning and skating, and this new poke-checking system has made me switch from All-Star in past games, to Superstar in this game. And it's not even a challenge. I'm scoring 7 goals a game on Superstar and it's hardly a challenge.

There is no argument here. It needs to be toned down.
