Tampa Bay Lighting Hire New GM Deku Scrub

It took the whole offseason, but the Tampa Bay Lightning have finally found the man they believe they are looking for. The organization has hired veteran general manager Deku Scrub. Reportedly, the organization is expecting 44 wins out of the squad this year. However, this seems kind of crazy as the general public believes that the Bolts are in a rebuilding state.

Nonetheless, led by young superstar Steven Stamkos, the team hopes to capture the Southeast Division title again. They're off to a good start so far, after winning their first game of the season. Vincent Lecavalier scored the game-winning overtime goal as the Bolts won 3-2 over the Hurricanes.

OFF SEASON REPORT​

The New Jersey Devils organization wasted no time signing recently fired general manager Tom Renney to a six year contract. Salary details were not disclosed as per club policy. This marks a new era for the Devils who have been struggling over the last few years since they lost Marty Brodeur to retirement.

The Devils had the 10th overall pick this year in the draft, and went for top ranked American goaltender Toby Langkow. He has been playing in the USHL for the Tri-City Storm. Recording 19 wins and only 6 losses and a 2.11GAA and .925SV% he was the most eligible goalie in this years draft.

Tom Gilbert is a rock on defense and should help bolster the blue line. He can also put up points, and has great control of the puck. Radim Vrbata will add much needed depth on the right wing, seeing as the only signed right wingers were Steve Bernier and Mikahil Grigorenko. Richard Greenop is a 25 year old brawler. Don't expect him to put up many points but expect him to fend for his teammates. Eddie Lack will add some younger support in nets, as Curtis Sanford was getting older, and Budaj is certainly not getting any younger.

Analysis: Larsson just came off a record season of 58 points with the big club. Hes played three full NHL seasons, and is showing that he is number one on the Devils blue line.

Analysis: Played 47 games for the big club last season, only recording 8 points, Grigorenko still has some developing to do before he gets top line minutes, but should see himself as a full timer next season.

Analysis: Bartschi played most of last season in the AHL, recording 51 points in 66 games. He will most likely spend next season alternating from the main club to the AHL.

Anton Zlobin, RW (Drafted: 2013, 1st round 4th overall)
Age: 21
Country: Russia
Analysis: Anton has spent the last two years progressing in Juniors. This will be his first season playing pro. Many eyes will be on him as he keeps progressing. He is expected to be a top six winger.

Grant Webermin, D (Drafted: 2013, 6th round 153rd overall)
Age: 20
Country: USA
Analysis: Drafted the same year as Zlobin, Webermin has also been playing in juniors perfecting his play. He will be spending time in Albany and is expected to make the jump to the big club in the next few years. He is projected as a top pairing D-man.

Age: 20
Country: Canada
Analysis: Murray has been juggled between Albany and New Jersey. Only playing 14 games for the big club, he is still young and needs more development. Projected as a top 4.

Age: 20
Country: USA
Analysis: Having just been drafted, Langkow has some time to progress before seeing any time with the big club. However being already twenty, he won't be spending any time in Juniors which may slow his progression down.

Austin Adam, D (Drafted: 2014, 2nd round 40th overall)
Age: 19
Country: Canada
Analysis: Austin has tons of upside as an offensive defenseman. It may be a while before we get to see any of his talent, but he is projected as a bottom pairing d-man who would most likely be the go to guy for power plays.

Matthew Mistele, LW (Drafted: 2014, 3rd round 70th overall)
Age: 18
Country: Canada
Analysis: Mistele is projected to be bottom six two way forward. He already has great skating, and good puck control, it shouldn't be long before he makes the jump to pro.

Tampa Bay Lighting 2012 Trade Deadline Report

After a very slow start to the season, GM Deku Scrub decided to spice things up back in November. He sent goaltender Dwayne Roloson and a second round pick over to San Jose in exchange for Antti Niemi. Back then, the team was having trouble scoring goals, and keeping the puck out of their own net.

Now, they sit atop their division, second in the Eastern Conference. Steven Stamkos and Martin St Louis have stepped it up big time. Stamkos leads the league in goals with 36, and St Louis leads the league in assists with 60. The linemates sit atop the NHL scoring race together. Stamkos has 83 points and St Louis has 87 in 62 games.

The team has been scoring at will, with a 3.60 goals per game average. They also have the league's best powerplay, at 28.8%.

Lightning GM Deku Scrub decided to make a move at the trade deadline to help the team's defensive core.​

Coyotes Force Game 6
April 26, 2013

The Coyotes have now won back-to-back games against a seemingly dominant Vancouver Canucks with both games tight from the opening draw to the final whistle. Eric Staal and John Tavares have scored the key goals for the Coyotes, allowing them to win 2-1 and 3-1 respectively in games 4 and 5.

The Canucks got Dan Boyle back into the line-up for game 5.

Game 6 is scheduled to start at 7 PM Pacific Time at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, AZ.

DEVILS ADDRESS GOALTENDING​

Goal scoring has not been a problem in New Jersey, the goals against however have been a big problem. Despite alternating between goaltenders Budaj and Lack, the Devils couldn't seem to get out of the 500 even mark. A problem that was addressed earlier on today by general manager Tom Renney. He sent veteran defenceman Anton Volchenkov and a 2nd round pick in 2018 to Columbus for goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.

'I think this should help break our 500 record. Bobrovsky has been under utilized in Columbus playing back up for Steve Mason. At least here he will get a run at the starter job like he did back in Philly.' - Tom Renney

Shortly after the trade the Devils announced the signing of defensive defenseman Kurt Sauer to a 1 year deal worth 1.350M. He plays a similar game to Volchenkov, and should be able to fill his role nicely. However he won't be playing top pairing minutes, he will be the PK specialist and play on the third pairing.

Canucks Advance To 2nd Round With 4-2 Win Over Phoenix
April 28, 2013

The Vancouver Canucks are once again in the final eight after defeating the Phoenix Coyotes 4-2 last night. It was a back and forth game through the first 2 periods of play, but after a dominating 3rd period, the Canucks walked away with the victory. Eric Staal scored 2 for the Coyotes while the Canucks got goals from Prospal, Edler, Crosby, and Jagr.

The Canucks will face the winner of the Edmonton-Anaheim series, which is currently led 3-2 by Edmonton.

With a record of 50-23-9, the Bolts won the President's Trophy for earning the most points in the league. 2012 NHL Entry Draft Report

Meet the newest member of the Tampa Bay Lightning: first overall pick Ryan Murray.

The 2012 draft started off with a bang for the Tampa Bay Lightning. (No pun intended.) Before the first pick had even been made, Gary Bettman headed up to the podium and said: "We have a trade to announce." The Pittsburgh crowd went silent.

"Tampa Bay trades Marc Andre Bergeron, the 21st overall pick, and the 15th overall pick... to Dallas, in exchange for the first overall pick in this year's draft."

Pierre McGuire had some choice words to say about this trade on the TSN broadcast:

"OH MY HEAVENS, are you kidding me, Dallas??? You were the worst team in the National Hockey League last season and you TRADE the first overall pick? If you're getting a good package, that's not so bad. But this, this is just crazy. Dallas might get a couple good prospects, but they could have had Ryan Murray, or Nail Yakupov! I'm sorry to inform you, Dallas, but you've just been robbed!!"

Of course, Tampa Bay fans were ecstatic when they heard the news. Here is what Lightning GM Deku Scrub had to say up at the podium:

MURRAY STEPS DOWN AS SENATORS GM, DRINKS BEER

Former Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray steps down

After firing every coach he could find, former Senators GM Bryan Murray resigned this morning. "It's just too stressful," Murray said between gulps of Labatt Blue. "I mean, there's no time to just sit and have a drink."

Murray has been replaced by first-year GM Chibi Pooky, who got his start on the popular website HFBoards.com. "At first I was dismayed to be taking over the Senators, actually," said Pooky. "I figured since Karlsson is terrible at defense and Alfie can barely skate anymore, it was gonna be a tough job." However, since arriving, he's all smiles. "Karlsson CAN play defense!" he said, "and I even had a conversation with Brian Burke without Tyler Bozak coming up!"

Head coach Paul MacLean will retain his job, Pooky confirmed. "We think Paul is a good hockey coach, and we want him to continue to develop the relationships he built during the last part of the season."

With just days remaining before the first preseason game, the Senators have released the official lineup cards for the Ottawa (NHL) and Binghamton (AHL) clubs.

Tampa Bay Lightning Offseason Report

After last season's first round playoff exit, the Tampa Bay Lightning Roster is not really all that different. The team did win the President's Trophy, so it makes sense. General manager Deku Scrub decided to give the team's bottom six a makeover. Defender Jared Cowen is also coming up from the AHL to replace Marc-Andre Bergeron. Besides that, he's sticking with what worked last season.

Backup goaltender Mathieu Garon decided it was time for him to end his career, so there was also a hole to fill in the backup position.

The Ottawa Senators have traded AHL forwards Mark Parrish, Corey Locke, Francis Lessard, and Tim Conboy to the Colorado Avalanche for defensive prospect Cameron Gaunce.

"We had far too many forwards in Binghamton," explained Senators GM Chibi Pooky. "And no defensemen on the bench..."

The Binghamton Senators now carry the conventional three healthy scratches, two forwards and one defenseman. Ottawa also signed winger Jakob Silfverberg to his ELC.

Erik Gudbranson suffered a concussion after yesterday's 7-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

Midway through the second period, Gudbranson received a late elbow to the head from Kings' defenseman Matt Greene. The Canadiens' coach decided to not play Gudbranson for the rest of the game and told him to recover in the locker while his teammates would do everything to have him revenged.

That said, Cam Atkinson, despite his size, dropped the gloves against Matt Greene, and KO'd him. Ironically, Greene was also diagnosed with a concussion after the game.

Gudbranson is expected to miss at least 3 weeks of activity. Along with Smith-Pelly, Gudbranson is the second Canadiens' player to be concussed this year.

Nathan Beaulieu was recalled from Hamilton and will take Gudbranson's place on the right side of Ryan Murray. Beaulieu is very familiar with Jonathan Huberdeau, as they both played three seasons with the Saint John Seadogs in the QMJHL together. He also go to know Murray during the 2012 WJC as they both played on team Canada.

Also, Prust is expected to come back for the next game. Nick Palmieri was placed on the waivers but he was later claimed by the New York Rangers.​

ANDERSON INJURED IN FLYERS LOSS

Senators goaltender Craig Anderson was lost to injury Tuesday evening​

The Ottawa Senators have started the 2011-2012 season hot, going 4-1 in their first five games, thanks largely to the play of goaltender Craig Anderson. Anderson posted a sparkling 1.66 GAA and .940 SV% in that span. But a routine save on Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds put both him and his hot streak on ice. "I went down to make a left pad save," Anderson explained, "and I felt a tweak." That tweak was Anderson's groin. Team doctors describe the injury as a pulled groin. "I'm disappointed," Anderson told the Sun. "The whole team was playing well. The only relief is that I know [backup goaltender] Alex [Auld] will step right in and keep the momentum going." Auld will face the Winnipeg Jets in two days' time. Goaltender Mike McKenna has been called up from Binghamton as insurance.
