A VERY good presentation of a modern Analytics department including its identity
- theoretical vs applied research
- humility, communication, collaboration
- critical importance of trust

Park shifted his career path in actuarial science to drive information-based decision making support within football. Regarded as future prospective NFL GM.

Seguing to the Oilers organizational transformation, one can hear the information based analytical strategic thinking mindset through all level of the organizations through interviews from Jackson, Bowman, Knoblauch, and Pracey. Watching the Young Stars tournament one intermission feature showed the Oilers group at the NHL Draft. Embedded within the heart of its scouting team was their Senior Director, Data & Analytics, Michael Parkatti.

This is the maturation of information based decision making in pro sports and Park gives an amazing testament to the humility (vs. arrogance) and team centred approach to work within these sport cultures. Worth a listen imo!

Vegas throws their hat in the ring for the worst team in the league. That was brutal. Cowboys had a bad off season , losing key guys and it’s showing. Hate to see it. ;)

Nice to see the Rams keeping it close with the Niners. Both teams have major injuries.

What are the Ravens doing?

Typical Harbaugh coached team. Get up by a bunch, and just play it safe the rest of the way. What a choke job by the Niners. Wow.

I can’t wrap my head around the stupidity of today’s coaches. Dallas is trailing Baltimore by 22 points, that’s 3 scores. They score a touchdown to cut it to 16, if they kick a 1 point convert they trail by 15. They went for 2 and failed so now they need 2 touchdowns with 2 point converts to tie. They scored another touchdown and failed the 2 point conversion again. Now instead of being down 8 and within 1 score of tying the game they’re down 10 and need 2 scores to win. They just added the need for one more scoring drive unnecessarily by going for 2 at a time when it couldn’t win or tie the game for them yet anyway. This isn’t just a McCarthy thing either. I’ve been watching the thinking for this change in the CFL for years too and mocking its failures.

And how about Sam Darnold reinventing himself in Minnesota? Wow.
Does this mean there might be hope for Zak Wilson at some point?;)

The Jets sure have a great record developing quarterbacks.

Geno Smith (2nd round pick) - now a very solid starter on Seattle.

Sam Darnold (3rd overall pick) - coming around finally for the Vikings

Zak Wilson (2nd overall pick) - traded to the Broncos - TBA
