Makes zero f**king sense for the NHL not to include the Czechs. Gross incompetence. I feel for you and your fellow Czechs bud, Pastrnak and co. should be donning your jersey there.
3 NHL goalies
All forwards could be NHL
D is dicey... Next year would have 4 NHLers but gudas is popular... Hronek is killing it... Jiricek projects higher than both of them. Rutta and warm bodies after that.lol

The Czechs have more than enough AHL D-men that would be able to cover spots, whether they’d fair well on the ice is an entirely different question. But they should be there, absolutely garbage if they aren’t.

Only the NHL could ruin something that is straightforward to organize.

The tournament should have 6-8 teams and be longer than a week. You will need time to let things marinate and not act like it's an exhibition tournament.

Plus, the idea of not having a powerhouse like Russia with all of its talent is already going to hurt the tournament.

As much as I understand the frustration I just don't see how it could be done any other way without an agreement with the IIHF and without Russia.

And it really could be worse, imagine something like this: Team Canada, Team USA, Team Canadian Young Stars and Team US Young Stars. :)

So they can't get euros because no agreement... So maybe that is why no Czechs. But, like mentioned above... Bring in a few AHLers ... Today that could be svozil, Hajek, Simek, Spacek and Zboril.

A 4 team tournament.lol

If they really wanted to make a statement, invite Ukraine, Poland, etc. while excluding Russia.;)

So it's only the Swedish and Finnish Federations preventing a true World Cup from occurring.:help:

Why even deal with the Federations then? Tell them to pound sand and have an NHL/NHLPA-based Unofficial team Sweden, Finland, etc.. It's not like this tourney is IIHF sanctioned. This would allow all of the top 6 to participate

Perhaps the Swedish and Finnish players would face repercussions from their Federations if they participated?

How well would the NHL react if its Swedish and Finnish players were to go and organize games between teams with NHL monikers on their own in Stockholm or Helsinki?

I don't think it would be wise to make the players choose a side here, either they make a deal with the federations or this doesn't happen. Although I suspect that the end game here might be a best-of series between USA Hockey and Hockey Canada anyway.

I far prefer a four team tournament than anything with the lunacy of a U23 + European players who happen to not be born in Sweden, Finland, Russia or Czech republic. Hell I'd prefer just a Canada USA series. There was something so mickey mouse and contrived with the last tournament it should be burnt into the annals of history and never thought of again.

Hard pass on anything to do with Russia right now. No one wants to be the international pariah to move first. I don't see Russia participating in any international events for at least another two years.

I never want to hear of anything related to the NHL or the Olympics again until the actual day where the players are there on site and ready to play, and even then it would take me an entire cycle to care again. The disappointment of missing 12 years of proper international competition, an entire generation of hockey players over short term corporate greed, egos and politicking is far too much to stomach, and I think both the NHL and the IOC are to blame for this travesty.

I have corrected your typo

"the end game here might be a best-of series between Russian Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada anyway. The series to be played at two largest hockey venues in the world - SKA Arena, St.Petersburg and Bell Centre, Montreal."

You are welcome ;)

The North American hockey bosses aren't as absolute about their Russia boycott in principle, but any deals with individuals sanctioned by the US and Canadian governments are off the table regardless and that includes much of the Russian hockey federation leadership.

Germany wins silver at the world champs, Swiss might have one of its best rosters ever, Lativa wins its first medal, Czech wins silver at the world jrs, Slovakia has a handful of high draft picks....

NHL "Lets have less teams!"

The NHL is terrible for the international game.

they could go easily with 6 teams with Switzerland and Czechia and it would be fine.

Not having Russia there is ok for obvious reasons and also other countries don't want to play with them anyway. Finland and Sweden will 100% not participate if Russia is involved

Russia or nothing for me. It's ridiculous. NHL is horrible at growing the game.

It hasn't occurred to you that the players themselves might not be interested in playing? Players have been saying publicly that they support Russia's exclusion until they get out of Ukraine.

Nope. The non-Russian Europeans, mostly Finns and Swedes, don't want them in it.
It’s turned out that it’s not going to be a World Cup; so I guess I was half right. Some sort of 4 team exhibition tournament? I really don’t know I don’t like this idea

WORLD CUP
It’s not going to be a World Cup apparently: I don’t know what the official name will be but it seems like some sort of showcase tournament to wet the appetite for 2026

Agree with all of it. Even the US vs Canada series. They are literally setting up an NHL showcase wihtout Seider, Josi, Pasta, Stutzel etc.

My only dream is that the Finn's and Swedes are in the finals and ratings tank!

FTR... I would watch Sweden and Finland and would love it but the general NHL crowd they want clearly want US and Canada in the final.
