It’s a tough choice between Kreider and Mika. But went with Kreider since he signed an extension and has those leadership qualities and was drafted by NY.

i love Zib, but i don't see need or benefit to making him C
Smells just like the McD ascension, which undermined his arc as league top-10 at his position

let Kreider carry the C while Zib and Bread carry the O

sometimes your best player should be your C, but not always
Nevin, Dave, Kisio, Calley weren't team top 5 talents, but were good C's for those teams

Kreider as C will remind of Beck,
a core piece of the team's identity and of their best play,
while not exactly their best player

I originally voted Mika but I think you are right. Give it to the guy who's been with the team since 2012 and just signed a long term extension. He's a tenured veteran, loved by his teammates (got to see this first hand when I attended a practice this season) and is likely best suited to handle the pressures that come along with the C.

Mika has only just broken out as a bonafide #1 center the past season and a half. Why add any additional pressure and mess with that? As you pointed out, it was given too soon to McDonagh and while you can't prove the captaincy was the direct cause, it certainly correlated with him plateauing/taking a step back.

Part of being a captain is setting an example every night.

Kreider doesn’t show up half the time - to me that’s a massive red flag. Your team’s identity starts with your captain. What type of example does that set? He’s a complete head case (not in the Deangelo way of course).

I haven’t seen captain material on this team since McDonagh left (and who even knows if he was a good captain). I think we were hoping Andersson was that guy unfortunately.
