While I did voted for Suzuki but it won’t be him next season.

From a tenure standpoint, Gallagher I know makes sense, but refs hate him and simply put, his lack of tact when speaking and tweeting is far removed from somebody like Weber. I get how some fans love that “fiery” passion but his emotional intelligence isn’t captain material.

Tough call.

Suzuki is too young in my opinion.
He's got enough on his plate trying to find his game and earning that huge contract.

Toffoli and Edmundson could be possibility as a stop gap Captain until Suzuki is good to go.
If we are looking for a longer term, Anderson and Gallagher seems to me like the options.

Gallagher, it would be almost like an insult not to give it to him but I think his life in Montreal might be close to an end.....and there's that relationship with referees, might not be the best idea. He's a leader for sure, he's having a letter on his sweater no matter what, but maybe not the C.

Anderson....he just arrived in Montreal compared to a guy like Gallagher. Would not have a problem with Anderson but I'm not sure he's Montreal Canadiens Captain material.

There's not really a good answer here.

If the last few weeks were an audition for Captain....I would give it to Pezzetta:laugh:

I think its too much to gve to Nick right away, the pressure to live up to his inflated contract will be enough without adding the C.
More I think about it my favorite profile of player would be Edmundson( if he stays) or someone like him. A defensive type that won’t be criticised for not scoring enough goals.

Its between Suzuki and Edmundson imo. I voted Edmundson for a transition captain. Gallagher isnt the kind ok captain I would like to have. Raging like a kid on twitter. What the … lol.

Gallagher's stupid contract likely means he won't be with us for long, so it can't be him.

It's probably Suzuki

Between Other and Suzuki, I picked Other. Captain Other sounds so much better. :sarcasm:

My bet is there won't be any captain. Hughes is just doing some wishful thinking.

Shane Wright :)

I would say Gallagher unless he wants out for the rebuild. If not Anderson.

Not a great list... voted Suzuki even though he's a bit young for that, and already has a lot of pressure because of his contract.

Gallagher would've been an obvious choice before the start of the year, but his reactions ain't inspiring so far, ain't reacting like a captain at all, he's frustrated, I get it, but damn come on control yourself... also wonder if he'll get traded.

Edmundson, I don't know, I just don't see him as captain material, seems like the quiet type, just doing his thing.

Anderson, I don't see as captain here either, nor Toffoli, both seem to have good attitudes, Anderson being the warrior and Toffoli being the enthusiastic smiling guy, but I simply wonder if we'll keep them or if they'll be 'hockey trades'. Anderson's contract isn't perfect, but he's a rare breed of player, while Toffoli has, IMO, a great contract for what he brings.

The GM can pick the captain, so I don’t see it as just wishing on something he has control over.

Why don't we use next year to evaluate a potential captain, and then pick one for the 2023 season ? Why rush into it, we are still going to be a lotto team next year, gally may be gone and suzuki could use another year before getting the C

Edit changed to no captain, pick one for the following season

I feel like we are in a similar position to Detroit when Yzerman took over. I see Suzuki as our Larkin. A young player from the old regime identified as a core piece who will be here to see the rebuild through and be groomed into a leader. That's why I see them going with Suzuki. It may be a bit early but he will be the defacto leader by the time we are competitive.
