The calculator is right the logic is wrong. I keep highlighting these words like the word "exceeds" or "larger than" in the last post. If you have 100 cupcakes and I have 100 cupcakes I have 100% the cupcakes you have, but my cupcake stash is not 100% larger than yours and my cupcake stash does not exceed your cupcake stash by 100%. If I had 101 cupcakes my stash would not be 101% larger than yours, it would be 1% larger than your stash. The Russian word for larger than is больше, чем, and the word for exceed is превышать (all google translate). But as you can tell from the Russian it implies a surplus over the compared amount. So in Russian that would beOne hundred percent of something is something, without having been reduced by anything. 100% of 145 million is 145 million. Another way to state that is to say that 145 million X 1 = 145 million. 200% of 145 million = 290 million, or, you could say 145 million X 2. And so on. According to my calculator, the published American population estimates exceed the Russian population by 2.21 times, or 221%. So sue my calculator.
"У меня есть 100% того, что у вас есть" (I have 100% of what you have)
vs.
"У меня есть 100% больше, чем то, что у вас есть" (I have 100% more than what you have)
There is a difference, and hopefully in crossing the language barrier some clarity can be reached.
