whats the rule for refs blowing the whistle on an injury? I feel like I've seen guys crawl to the bench from the other side of the ice and then they just blow it immediately for that?

Pretty sure his team has to gain control of the puck for the ref to blow the whistle. Unless it's a bad injury, such as getting hit the puck / cut, or not moving.

That’s fair. I’m not one to put unreal expectations on rookies. It’s not about the points or goals for me personally, it’s about the speed adjustments and compete. It’s all about the effort, and it just seems lacking for Alexis. Hopefully it’s just a product of the jump from the Q to the NHL.
