Some of these numbers don't pass the eye test at all. Burns at 0% physicality? Slavin at only 65% ev defense, Jackson Blake at an absurd 97% ev defense, etc. What the hell does it mean that Carrier is 95% ev offense? Is that going off of corsi?

2/3rds of the numbers make sense, but the others may as well be a random number generator, at least with regards to meaningful contributions to winning a hockey game.

They make sense to me. Burns is not a physical player, the Slavin pairing has struggled at times and carrying Burns' 33% defensive ass could definitely lower Slavin's, etc. Like I said, the numbers are from Natural Stat Trick, and according to them "Offense and defense percentiles calculated from on-ice and off-ice expected goal impacts"

Burns has the lowest hits per 60 minutes on the team. He’s made 9 hits all season.

I wish we'd introduce young defensemen to the Slavin pair as I think he'd be a good mentor and partner. Understood this may impact Rod's ability to throw it out in "shutdown" situations but is Burns much better?
Who is the young defenseman you introduce today, and who do you bench?

I think that's a valid point for next year when Burns and Orlov come off the books, and Nikishin (and maybe Morrow) move into the lineup. I think it's time to look at a Slavin-Morrow pairing and not re-signing Burns.

But this season? Barring injury I don't see it happening.

I wouldn't say there was one this year but in years past and future I think putting our young defensemen on his pair as opposed to shorter minutes on the bottom, usually with an equally ineffective partner, would be better for their development. Then rotate if the minutes or situations are too much.

In case y’all hadn’t seen. Waddell still awesome

I'm honestly not sure what the process looks like to make a marketing decision like this. Having Waddell parody a 50-year-old film, tentatively mimicking dance moves is a very small target audience, I would think. And then releasing it right before the biggest hockey game in almost a year, where it's definitely going to be overshadowed, that's certainly a choice.

It’s 70s night at the next CBJ game apparently.

I mean fair enough but I thought it was hilarious

Oh I don't know, being stuck in the 70s seems to be the mindset of most of the hockey community nowadays, so it fits

Like I said, within the context of an upcoming 70’s night, it works (though the info I see online has their 70s night happened in November, so…?)

If this was just something Columbus decided to produce during the 4 Nations break, no connection to any upcoming event, it would have made zero sense. I imagine, like most organizations, Columbus’ goal is to build generational fans - Ones that become fans young and remain fans until they’re old and grey. Parodying a film that anyone under the age of 30 has likely not seen doesn’t seem like the way to do that.

And I could even push it a bit further and say having a 70s night in general seems like a swing and a miss as well. Their franchise formed in 2000. That means that even inaugural season ticket holders would likely have to be around 25-30 at that time to appreciate the Saturday Night Fever reference, which would put them around 50-60 today. I can’t imagine that demographic is a large one. I feel like a 90s night (as other teams have done this year and last) was probably a more correct decision, but maybe that’s just me.

Jackets fan dropping in. It’s not that deep, guys. The CBJ foundation Cannon Ball gala was last night and its theme this year is Disco. Which would be very clear if you looked at any other tweet the team posted last night. Dean Evason was in platforms and a mirrored coat. This was just the team tweeting a silly video to fans of the team, who knew the context.
