I just heard that RBA is the fifth longest tenured coach in the NHL currently. It doesn’t feel like it should be that long but then you look at how many coaches get fired in a season, XM NHL said it was 12 coaches last year, it makes sense. These truly are the times.
I actually think it is 4th longest tenured and soon will probably be 3rd if the Pens stink and Sullivan gets let go.

Cooper - 2013
Sullivan - 2015
Bednar - 2016
Brind'Amour - 2018

Shockingly, Martin St. Louis is the 5th most starting in Feb 2022. So 28 of the 32 coaches have tenures of less than 3 seasons.

I'm biased, but I do think you have to put Carolina as a top 5 managed team in the league. Virtually every other team that is a contender has no prospect pool and at least one backbreaking contract. Canes have neither. Every offseason they find a new way to "zig" when the rest of the league "zags". Every offseason it looks like we'll take a step back because we didn't re-sign a key piece, and we find another piece at a cheaper price. The DeAngelo and then Burns moves after Hamilton have been incredible. The Kotkaniemi piece still has time, although that currently is a meaningful net loss over Trocheck. Every year the Canes find themselves in a corner, but the Borg finds a creative way to dance their way around the problem. Frankly, it's astonishing. And we on this forum find a way to doubt them at every turn.

People are kind and understanding towards zaggers. Ziggers however are judged more harshly :(

If Kotkaniemi puts up high 40s/low 50s, that contract is fine....even a steal. There's a lot to Necas making his linemates better, but if you watch all of those Necas goal replays, KK feeds him nicely on many of them.
I don't have a problem with KK's contract in general. Even if he ends up a 3rd liner, as the cap goes up, that's not a bad contract.

My issue has been more that given we are a team that spends to the cap AND is a team that is a cup contender, so has that $6m and $4.8M spent the last 3 seasons been the BEST use of that money/cap space? I know some will say, "then who should have they spent it on?" and that is really an unfair question, as that's the Canes job to figure that out. As we've seen, they usually find a way to get the right player when they need to (Skjei, Trocheck, DeAngelo, Burns, Ghost, Walker, Robinson, etc...).

I have ZERO problem with his play this season and he's still young, so if he keeps it up, I have no problems with it this season and moving forward.

Oh agreed, last season was very confusing to me...he was coming off of a 43 point season, I believe, and showing real progress.....then boom last season happened. So, I'm pulling for him....plus I've got his jersey, so there's always that.

For now they should be number, most people and a lot of Hurricanes fans, myself included, thought they were going to take a step back after this offseason. And now looking at it I don't know how Tulsky could have played it better. Even the Guentzel saga, as others have noted if they signed Guentzel that means Necas is traded for a late first and a meh prospect or something.

I agree. They should be a number.

Thanks!

Just watched. Didn't say much, but also said a bit with what he didn't say. Definitely seems like there might be more of a chance of it happening than we could imagine.

It sounds like many of the players are in line with what a lot of the fans are saying. The season is too long (too many games) and the recent Athletic poll talked about how they'd prefer a longer OT to a shootout.
Double the length of 3v3 in OT and I'm sure we would see very few, if any, shootouts.

lol it seems Bettman and the owners want the gate for 2 additional reg season games in the next contract.

I’d add, any year where there is an in-season tournament with a compressed schedule is also going to be a burden for players in between the break (I wonder if Jarvis goes on vacation to Mexico again during the 4 Nations Cup?).
