Man the Atlanta Flames was fantastic branding. Great logo great colors great nod to history. I get why Calgary kept it but it’s a shame Atlanta couldn’t go back to it. I didn’t like the thrashers at all
I'm on board to bring back the thrashers branding, but failing that i've decided a similar nod to history to the flames branding is in order.

The Atlanta Shermans. Nice tank mascot. Kids will love it! I see no reason the city fathers would disapprove.

New Athletic article by Lavalette: Hurricanes' Andersen back on the ice, Svechnikov’s ongoing injuries and Olympic excitement

One salient note is that he reveals that Andersen had/has DVT and he continues to be on blood thinners. "he is on blood thinners to treat the pulmonary embolisms he suffered due to his diagnosed deep-vein thrombosis."

This (my view) would not necessarily be a career ending injury as perhaps feared but with Freddie still on blood thinners that could clearly extend his return date.

Plus, maybe Svetch back tonight

DVT and a PE, and still on blood thinners?!? I'm surprised he's skating to be honest.

For folks interested in PE and treatments (he is now at the 90-day window):

PE’s raise the stakes much more than a DVT does. PE’s are a life threat and some people can end up long term on thinners from having them. If the whole process of DVT to PE has an explanation to it that makes dr’s feel like it’s unlikely to happen again then you can look at life going back to normal. Him being on skates at all suggests that’s on the table. Being a younger athlete you’d think he’s got a good chance of getting back to normal, but if he’s prone to DVT’s then he’s looking for the right doc to clear him because some won’t depending on his details. Which we don’t know.

The sudden pulling him from the lineup now makes sense. They found the PE’s. Presumably not in a life threatening area and he had to be on blood thinners for x amount of time until they cleared.

Sounds like he’s still on the thinners. They have different options for that now so maybe some of them make it less bad to play hockey but in the 911 sense of things it’s a hell no. If you get hit in the head hard enough for a head bleed it’s potentially all over, regardless of which thinner you’re on.

HIs illness does make his return more problematic and one that the Canes can't necessarily bank on. Short of a trade, I suspect it's going to be PK as the #1 in the playoffs and whether that is good enough is open to informed discussion.

I'm sure those inside the belt would love the atlanta shermans..

However if you're targeting the demographic of white dudes living outside the beltway, the dude who burned atlanta during the cw isn't who you should be going for.

Yep. At this point you have to treat Freddie as an assumption that he doesn't play again, and be pleasantly surprised if he does. In terms of this year, completely take him out of the equation. At this point the question the front office has to ask itself is 'do you trust PK to be the everyday starter right now?' If the answer is yes, own it and be up front about it. If the answer is no, go get someone like Markstrom.

This was exactly what I was alluding to a few weeks back. No action to get in the groove and them bam, a high danger chance.

No, I didn't write this tweet, but damn, I should have.

Edit: yes, I'm patting myself on the back, because I rarely have a reason to on this board since I'm wrong way more than right.

I think they *are* being pretty clear that they think Kochetkov is ready to be an everyday starter right now. They're trying to kinda hold the door open for Freddie in case he does get healthy, but the confidence the org has been showing in Kochetkov signals pretty clearly to me that he's our starter.
